It was a great thrill to ride a winner for Henry Spiller at 50/1 this week at Yarmouth! Henry was confident about Rochford’s chances beforehand and he was proved right.
There has been a healthy amount of rain in the last few days and a few of my rides will definitely appreciate the soft underfoot conditions…
Newmarket: Saturday
12.55 – Lexi The One
I’ve not ridden Lexi The One before, but she ran a nice race on soft ground over 7-furlongs last time out so won’t mind the conditions we’ll have at Newmarket. She’s still a maiden but she’s hit the crossbar a few times and hopefully she can go one better here!
3.20 – Entangling
I’m really looking forward to riding Entangling for David Elsworth. He will really appreciate both the soft ground and the extra distance. They had some rain at York on his latest start but not nearly enough for him to thrive. He’s in good form and I think he’s got a very live chance in what looks a wide-open race.
3.55 – End Result
I am really happy to have kept the ride on End Result. Although she was beaten by 10 lengths on debut, she gave me a great feel. She’s a lovely, big filly who will progress from run to run. This looks a hot race and with only seven runners, she’s probably not an each-way bet but I would really recommend on following her moving forward.
4:30 – Clem A
Clem A’s best form is probably on the all-weather and his last win on turf came on quick ground at Bath, and that is the complete opposite of soft ground at Newmarket! However, he’s a horse that knows where the winning post is and therefore you can’t rule him out if he handles the conditions.
Goodwood: Sunday
12.45 – Deep Sigh
I have ridden Deep Sigh at David Simcock’s in Newmarket. She’s a lovely filly but as always is the case with running at Goodwood first time out, it’ll be a learning curve for her. She’s up against a couple of horses who have prior experience and that is invaluable around Goodwood. I am looking forward to seeing how she fares.
2.25 – Woven
Woven has dropped down the handicap recently. He’s got plenty of ability as we saw when he won a valuable race out in Meydan in February. On his day, he is capable of winning a race like this and being out of a Pivotal mare, there is a good chance that he’ll appreciate the soft going.
