There’s an exciting weekend ahead at Haydock and Newmarket for the Cambridgeshire before a day trip to Scotland for a ride at Musselburgh.
Friday: Haydock
4.00 – Tweet Tweet
Tweet Tweet showed loads of speed over 5 ½ furlongs at York when just getting worn down late on by Mamba Wamba. This return to five will help her and an opening mark of 77 looks very workable. Her trainer Declan Carroll had a winner yesterday and I think she looks a good each-way price.
4.35 – Noble Masquerade
Noble Masquerade was slightly thrown in the deep end on his latest start at Ascot over 1m 4f against older horses. He ran a fair race but will find this a bit easier I’d say. We have been dropped 2lbs and the extra two furlongs will also help him.
5.05 – Tidal Point
My final ride at Haydock today is on Tidal Point for Steph Hollinshead. I rode him on his return to the track at Chester. That was his first run for well over a year and it was around a tight track that didn’t suit him. He is fully entitled to come on a bundle for that run and I’m expecting a much better showing from him here.
Saturday: Newmarket
3.35 – Tulfarris
It is great to be riding in the Cambridgeshire – a hugely historic and valuable handicap. I ride Tulfarris for Charlie Fellowes who continues to be on excellent form. Tulfarris ran well at Ascot to finish 2nd over 1 mile and that should strip him fitter for this. This type of race will really suit him as he likes having a big field and a quick pace ahead of him. I will ride him patiently and look to pick the field off. The negative for him is the draw – we are in stall 28 of 29 and it’s hard to know where they’ll come up the straight. Fingers crossed we have a bit of luck!
4.10 – Diamonds At Dusk
Diamonds At Dusk has improved with each run so far. I really like her and I just feel that the mile at Chelmsford on her latest start was too far for her. The 7 furlongs at Newmarket will play to her strengths much more and I’m hoping the rain continues to fall as the softer it is, the better it is for her. We have got a very light weight and I’m looking forward to riding her.
Sunday: Musselburgh
2.15 – The Queens Ladies
I only have the one ride at Musselburgh on Sunday and I’m going to fly up for it from Heathrow. It’s a long way to go but I think she has a huge chance of winning again. I didn’t give her a great ride last week at Chelmsford but she still won and we’ve only been raised 3lbs. Hopefully, the trip up there is worth it!
