My one ride at Bath last Friday was a winner. I hope a few of you followed after reading my blog last week. The Godolphin filly, Moment of Beauty, showed a fantastic attitude on soft ground to build on her debut and win for trainer, Saeed bin Suroor. She was very strong at the line and I expect her to have a good season over middle distances. She is worth keeping an eye on!
We have had plenty of rain recently which has led to some testing conditions around the country. Let’s hope for everyone’s sake that this warmer weather is here to stay now and the ground improves.
I am at Yarmouth on Friday and up to Beverley for the Two Year Old Trophy on Saturday.
Friday at Yarmouth
Yarmouth 2:00pm – 7f – ALNWICK CASTLE
ALNWICK CASTLE (66/1
) makes her first start for young trainer Harry Eustace. As previously mentioned this season, Harry has made a great start to life as a trainer and I’ve really enjoyed riding out at his yard. Alnwick Castle is a filly by Sir Percy. Sir Percy won the Derby and his progeny have tended to be better over slightly further but this looks a nice race to start him off in. There are plenty of well-bred newcomers here and it depends which trainer has their two-year-old ready to fire first time out. I’ve been in to ride my filly and she goes nicely but whatever she does here, she will be entitled to improve plenty. She has a tough task being pitched in against the colts but I’m looking forward to riding her.
Yarmouth 2:30pm: 1m 3 1/2f – LAST MISSION
LAST MISSION (33/1
) makes his racecourse debut for David Simcock. He wasn’t seen at all as a two-year-old but he’s ready to make his first start now at three. I’ve not ridden him before at home but I’ll be looking to teach him plenty and give him a good education.
Saturday at Beverley
Beverley 3:10: 5f Two Year Old Trophy – MERCURIAL
I have ridden MERCURIAL (9/2
) on both his starts to date for Tom Dascombe. He built on the promise he showed at Bath to score at Chester’s May Festival in good style. He has an excellent attitude and he gave me the impression that he had more improvement to come. This always attracts plenty of speedy and talented two-year-olds and we have to give weight away to a well-bred Richard Fahey newcomer but the race has cut up a fair bit and it’s a bit easier on paper than it could have been. I wouldn’t swap my ride in the race and, who knows, if he wins on Saturday, we could perhaps start dreaming of a date at Royal Ascot.
Stay safe,
Hayley!
