Harry Kane Opens the Door to Summer Transfer – What Are His Options?

30/03/2020 admin

Harry Kane put some of Europe’s biggest clubs on high alert over the weekend as he took part in an Instagram Q&A session with Jamie Redknapp, with the biggest revelation being that the England star would be open to a move away from North London.

When asked whether he would continue being a one-club player and stay at Spurs for his entire career, Kane answered: “I love Spurs. I’ll always love Spurs, but it’s one of them things I’ve always said. If I don’t feel like we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction, I’m not someone to stay there just for the sake of it.”

“I’m an ambitious player, I want to become a top top player, so it all depends on what happens as a team and how we progress as a team.”

While far from a come and get me please, Kane’s remarks will surely have pricked the ears of some of the top clubs from around Europe. Knowing he’s open to a move in order to win silverware could very well prompt some clubs to put pressure on Daniel Levy this summer, but who are the prime suitors and where would he fit in?

Filling the void at Old Trafford

A move up to the north west certainly seems the most likely destination should Kane depart the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the red half of Manchester would welcome him with open arms.

Manchester United have been devoid of a top class, out and out striker since allowing Romelu Lukaku to move to Inter last summer, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and, most recently, Odion Ighalo occupying the central striker berth. Quite obviously, none of these are on the same level as Kane when it comes to spearheading an attack, and his arrival would go a long way to solving some of the glaring problems in Solskjaer’s team.

The England captain has scored 136 Premier League goals in just 198 appearances, as well as netting 32 in 45 for England. The prospect of him teaming up with midfield maestro and instant fan-favourite Bruno Fernandes is a terrifying one for opposition defenders.

Replacing a Man City talisman

Manchester City is another potential destination for Kane, although a lot will depend on the outcome of their appeal against the looming Champions League ban. With Kane approaching his 27th birthday and his appetite for silverware increasing, it’s unlikely that he’ll entertain the notion of sitting out of the biggest club competition in the world for a few years.

However, if Man City’s appeal take a positive turn, a move to the Etihad becomes significantly more likely. The talismanic Sergio Aguero is almost 32 and, while he’s still as lethal as ever in front of goal, there’s no denying that his fitness has begun its inevitable decline.

Of course, they still have more than enough talent in Gabriel Jesus, but if the opportunity to sign Kane arose it would be a big shock if they didn’t join the race.

The Bernabeu beckons

It’s clear for all to see that Real Madrid are on the hunt for their next great striker. Karim Benzema has been ever-present at the spearhead of Real Madrid’s attack for over a decade now, but the Frenchman is 32-years-old now and the La Liga giants are looking for his long term replacement.

Los Blancos have been linked with Erling Braut Haaland, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang recently, but Harry Kane would undoubtedly be added to their shortlist if they felt a transfer was possible.

He would follow in the footsteps of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric in joining Real Madrid, and their unrivalled history in the Champions League could be enough to lure Kane away from the Premier League.

Partnering up with Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus may be completely dominant domestically, but their luck in the Champions League hasn’t been so great. The Turin giants have lost a ridiculous seven Champions League finals, and they showed just how serious they are about improving that record when they splashed the cash on Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2018.

Ronaldo, who has won the Champions League an incredible five times, is 35-years-old now but is showing very little signs of slowing down. He can’t go on forever though, and having an attacking trio that consists of Kane, Dybala and Ronaldo would massively boost The Old Lady’s chance of claiming their third Champions League title.

After all, Ronaldo is the competition’s leading scorer with 128 goals, and Kane boasts a record of 20 goals in just 24 appearances.
