There is a quality card at Sheffield on Tuesday night as the £10,000 to the winner ‘3 Steps to Victory’ draws to a conclusion.
A solid supporting undercard at Owlerton also contains a number of decent looking opportunities for punters to get stuck into.
Savana to erupt in 3 steps final
Savana Eruption has done well over shorter trips for Diane Henry but now over 660m can show what he is truly capable of. He was a perfect 2/2 at Cork over six bends and this trip will have been what he was bought for.
It’s a smart final against him at 20:46 but with the four moving inwards straight away and the six a wide runner, he will have plenty of room to operate in the early stages.
Upton to land the stayers
Ernie Upton has had to be patient with Outdoor Duran. Too green to do himself justice, he has always looked a smart type but in his early races wasn’t able to get out of his own way.
He has improved with experience and connections taking some weight off him. Comfortably the quickest qualifier in the heats of this competition last week, he can show off his newfound confidence in the final at 20:27.
Heilbron to start double with Longrange
The 18:51 only has four runners, making it a good opportunity for Longrange Dick, who has yet to reproduce his trial times in races. Tom Heilbron’s charge has a decent engine under the bonnet but has lacked the opportunity to show it off in full. This can prove just the ticket.
Venture to take advantage of draw
Heilbron can quickly double up on the card in the 19:26 with Little Venture. A slick winner over this trip here in August, he went to Nottingham last time out and produced another pleasing success.
The draw, bang on the rails in one, looks like a perfect launchpad for him to notch up a hat-trick of wins, and with some smart early pace at his disposal, he should quickly be in control of the field.
Candela to prove too sharp
As recently as early July, Catrigg Candela was down in A4 grade. The lightbulb suddenly came on for John Sharp’s charge and she has been in all-conquering form ever since.
Four wins at this open race level at Sheffield have followed and a defeat at Towcester last time is easy to excuse given she lacked a look around. She can get back to winning ways in the 19:58.
