Three open races at Sheffield tonight accompany some interesting graded contests. There is a young pup from a very nice damline who could make waves at a higher level later in the year in action on the card. She looks one to follow.
Jet Has Taken off in Recent Weeks
Dairy Hill Jet has been in sparkling form in recent weeks, winning three of his last four starts for Kirsty Grayson. Last week was the most impressive of those given that it was in the best field he has faced.
Early pace is his weapon of choice, a smart sprinter in Ireland before coming over. The longer 500m trip here doesn’t faze him and he can continue that winning run in the 18.36.
Marina to Have Her Marilyn Moment
It’s interesting to see Marinas Monroe stepping up in trip here, the first time she has done so at this track. She sports some solid efforts to her name when running in A1 at Sunderland over 450m, but has been kept to sprints at Sheffield.
Her times at Sunderland are very similar to her main market danger, Baron De Feypo, the trap 2 tonight. The big advantage Lisa Stepherson’s railer has at 19.09 is that she knows this track and her main rival has never seen Sheffield before.
Red Jacket a Big Plus for Fatima
It’s a cracking little sprint contest at 19.26 where the inside draw that Acomb Fatima has can be the deciding factor. She has been in excellent form of late, winning her last two starts over this course and distance.
There are four railers in this contest so she is going to have to be on her toes at the start to make sure that the other three outside her don’t come across. If she can hold her position, she can score for Kevin Ferguson.
Draper to Follow in Caesar’s Footsteps
Barrie Draper looks to have a nice charge in his kennel with Droopys Rubicon. A very slick winner on her A4 debut last week, she still looks well in despite heading into stronger company tonight at 20.46.
There should be any amount of improvement to come from her given she is only an April ‘20 whelp. Her litter brother Droopys Biggy is already a dual open race winner at Newcastle and she can go the same way in time.
Davy’s Charge to Land the A2
Geelo Demi was behind Marinas Monroe in a recent trial. With that hound expected to win earlier on the card, Sean Davy’s charge can win the A2 contest at 20.27.
She was a winner at this level four starts back, producing some more consistent efforts last month. A repeat of that kind of performance can see her make a well deserved return to winning ways.
