Sheffield have four open races on their card on Tuesday night, as the track builds towards the Category 1 Steel City Cup which begins on October 16.
Two trial stakes for the Owlerton competition can both head back to Alnwick, with trainer Angela Harrison looking set for success.
Harrison To Score with Rebel
Most of his recent form has come from a wider draw than this, but he absolutely sluiced up from this trap three slot at Newcastle in June. A repeat of that at this different track can see him back to winning ways.
Hardy Rebel can kick the evening off with a Harrison winner at 19.26. He has been in solid form on his travels in recent times without being able to get his head in front.
Lloyd Can Double up for Harrison
Brynoffa Lloyd has only had two races for Angela Harrison but could hardly have been more impressive when winning the second of those at Newcastle in a sparkling 28.37, the sixth fastest time of 2021 over their 480m.
He has a flying sprint win at Clonmel on his Irish card, so he clearly has a big engine to go to war with. He needs to trap out well here to avoid the decent local yardstick in two. If he can do that, he can get first run on the five, another nice Irish recruit, in the 20.27.
Heilbron’s Venture to Sheffield to Bear Fruit
This will be the first time that Little Venture has run in a race over two bends, but he shapes as if it will suit. He has some decent trial form over this sort of trip and his sectionals over four bends suggest he has more than enough early pace.
Magna Norris in two has been winning opens over this course and distance of late and his sectionals times over further at this track are slower than the selection. That gives further hope that Tom Heilbron’s railer can taste success at 18.51.
Student to Become the Master
It’s fair to say that Student Prince is not the most regular scorer, but Kirsty Grayson’s charge has an ideal opportunity to get his head in front in the 19.58.
Neither of his two main market rivals have been enjoying the most consistent run of form of late and given that the selection beat one of those at Perry Barr in a St Leger heat, it makes his chance stand out even more.
Weatherall to Rifle in Winning Pup
There are just four opens on the card, so the fifth selection comes from the graded action. Eton Rifles has been taking giant steps forward with experience for Carol Weatherall and can do so again tonight at 19.41.
He is a perfect 3-from-3 so far, shrugging off both a triple and a double upgrade, winning A8, A5 and A3 on his way to this A2 assignment. This is naturally by far his deepest task to date, but there should still be plenty of improvement in the tank.
