Since stepping up to this 710m distance, Blueberry Bullet has yet to taste defeat. She has breezed through the heats to reach this final and produced her best performance yet in the semi-final, prevailing by just under seven lengths.
Mark Wallis’ bitch has been very quick out of her boxes which means she avoided trouble around the bends. This trap two draw in the final looks perfect for her as the dog on the inside of her is usually slow away.
Wallis has two runners in this final, but Antigua Mememe (trap five) is likely to be fighting it out for one of the minor honours. There is expected to be a lot of confidence behind Blueberry Bullet, and that is deserving as she is the one to beat in this final.
Selection: Trap 2 Blueberry Bullet
8:36pm Perry Barr – M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup (OR)
Kevin Hutton’s runner Forest Gold has been in excellent form recently. He has recorded back-to-back victories in Open races at this course. His latest outing saw him produce a career-best time of 28.18, the fastest any of these runners have clocked.
This is a competitive contest as cases can be made for Havana Class (trap four) and Headford Flash (trap six). The race to the first bend is going to be key to determining who prevails. The recent sectionals suggest Forest Gold may lead them after the opening bend.
The Dorotas Wildcat dog is strong in the second half of the 480m race, so, as long as he is in touch with the leader at the halfway point, he would have an excellent chance of coming out on top at the finish line.
Selection: Trap 3 Forest Gold
7:34pm Perry Barr – Arena Racing Company Puppy Stake Final (OR)
Trumps Benefit is one of the most exciting puppies running on this card, who features in trap four in this Open race. He powered home late on to prevail at this track a week ago. He was well fancied on that occasion, and there should be strong support behind him again.
This dog has been going off at long odds-on at Nottingham. The standard of opposition is much stronger this time, but he remains open to improvement. The Sheffield based dog will be doing his best work in the second half of the race, and with a bit of luck in running, he can work his way through the field with a powerful burst of pace over the final 100m.
Selection: Trap 4 Trumps Benefit
