1.05 Goodwood – MansionBet Bet 10 Get 20 EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes
The standard set by those with form is not high and the chances are that one of the four debutantes have it in them to win this if they are forward enough. Top of my list would be Prism, whose pedigree is above-average (as might be expected for a Varian-trained juvenile) and whose dam had form on testing ground in France. Two of the yard’s four juvenile runners this season have placed and Franny Norton has ridden just six times before for Varian, recording one win.
Selection: Prism @ SP
1.40 Goodwood – MansionBet Watch And Bet Handicap
A warm race, featuring Prince Alex whose winning sequence ended on reappearance last time and Chester Cup third Hochfeld. The best handicapped of them is Hyanna, who is now 2lb lower than when she chased home Natural History (since runner-up at Group 3 level) on heavy ground here in October. Both of her runs since are easy enough to excuse and so long as she settles in the early stages, she is a massive runner.
Selection: Hyanna @ 6/1
2.10 Goodwood – MansionBet Beaten By A Head Festival Stakes (Listed Race)
A bunch of reliable old stagers, a horse that blew the Cambridgeshire field apart from the favoured rail and one with one of the best pieces of handicap form so far this fairly young season. Of course the last named of those, Al Zaraqaan, is favourite and, what’s more, this race should suit a lot better than the Jockey Club Stakes. He was too keen that day, but now drops in trip and is more likely to settle around Goodwood.
Selection: Al Zaraqaan @ 9/4
2.50 Goodwood – Download The MansionBet App Handicap
Franny Norton is much more readily associated with Mark Johnston than Roger Varian and Bowman is one of his three mounts for Johnston on this card. This horse remains fairly well treated on the form of his Lingfield win in April (runner-up Rhoscolyn, who re-opposes, has won since) and can be forgiven his defeat at York last time. Goodwood has many more similarities with where he enjoyed his highest point so far.
Selection: Bowman @ SP
3.25 Goodwood – MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Tapster Stakes (Listed Race)
Immediately after he won the Geoffrey Freer, you would have expected Hukum to have left Listed races behind long before now. His two starts since have not been a fair reflection: he seemed to struggle to get home in the St Leger and looked rusty in the Gordon Richards on his reappearance. Now fit and back at 1m4f, which might well be his best distance, Hukum should be able to show that he is a bona fide Group-class performer.
Selection: Hukum @ SP
4.00 – Follow @mansionBet EBF Fillies’ Handicap
In just five starts for Marcus Tregoning, Asiaaf reached an RPR of 95, enough to make her easily the best handicapped of these on fairly recent form. She has also joined David Menuisier and both filly and trainer are on such a progressive path that you fancy she must improve this year. Her return at Yarmouth can be written off as a fact-finding mission and she can now improve on her second at this course (winner Believe In Love runs in a Group 3 on Saturday, as it happens) in July.
Selection: Asiaaf @ SP
4.35 – MansionBet Proud To Sponsor British Racing EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes
Not such a sleepy fillies’ novice once you notice there’s a full-sister to Frankel in the line-up. Chiasma deserves to be regarded as the likeliest winner after her promising debut, although it is noted that Sans Pretention is bred to thrive under these conditions, as her dam’s three best runs all came on ground softer than good. With Chiasma’s family ties likely to compress her odds, it could be worth taking her on.
Selection: Sans Pretention @ SP
