It’s an earlier start than usual this week with the British Masters starting on Wednesday at The Belfry on the Brabazon Course, Sutton Coldfield.
The 156 competitors will be competing on this stunning par 72 parkland course for the £1.85 M purse with the winner receiving £308,395.
It’s a final chance for the seldom few in this field to brush up heading to Kiawah Island for the next major in the golfing calendar next week, The PGA Championship.
The weather is forecast for the showers to stay away but it will be cloudy for the most part with gentle breezes.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 1.30pm GMT.
Rasmus Hojgaard
So let’s get on with this weeks selections, for my main pick this week on the European Tour I’m going to advise Rasmus Hojgaard 20/1 EW Betfair.
This talented young 20 year old from Denmark won on this course last year when winning the ISPS Handa UK Championship so certainly knows his way around The Belfry.
That was his maiden European Tour victory but there is definitely more to come from Hojgaard. He did win another event in 2019, The Mauritius Open but it’s not included on the European Tour.
He has managed a couple of Top 10 finishes since that maiden title, he was 6th at the Saudi International and 9th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. He was 12th at the Austrian Golf Open a few weeks back so has some form coming to the British Masters.
The young Dane has spent time in between PGA and European events recently but if he can bring the form back to a course he adores them he will certainly be the one they all have to beat.
Calum Hill
For my next selection I’m going to suggest our very own Calum Hill 50/1 EW Betfair.
The young 36 year old Scot from Kirkcaldy had a very impressive Canary Islands Championship tournament last week. He was in the mix for most of the way before falling away at the end to eventually finish 12th.
He was excellent at the two Kenyan events on the European Tour just a matter of weeks ago when finishing 8th at the Kenya Open and an even better 3rd at the Kenya Savannah Classic.
Although he is still to make his breakthrough in the European Tour he has won a few events on the challenge tour, three to be exact winning the Made in Denmark Challenge and the Euram Bank Open in 2019 and the Galgorm Ireland Open in 2018.
I’ve been watching the young Scot recently and he’s been on my radar, he will win that maiden European Tour Title, I’m certain about that and it could well be this week at the Belfry with the British Masters crown.
Bernd Wiesberger
For my next selection I’m going to single out Bernd Wiesberger 20/1 EW Bet365.
The 35 year old Austrian has six European Tour victories to his name and will be looking for his seventh this week here at the Belfry.
He bagged three of those in 2019 when winning The Scottish Open, The Italian Open and the Made in Denmark.
The Austrian was an unlucky 2nd at the British Masters back in 2016 and although he comes here with up and down form I just feel he can bring his experience and expertise and use it to his advantage to be in the mix on the back nine on Sunday afternoon.
Maximillian Kieffer v Connor Syme
For my final selection it’s the customary 72 hole match bet and I’m going for Maximillian Kieffer to beat Connor Syme 10/11 Nap Bet365.
