After such an exciting weekend at The Masters it’s back to basics, staying in Georgia for the RSM Classic at Sea Island.
Congratulations to Dustin Johnson winning The Masters in such impressive style by five shots with a -20 scorecard proving yet again why he’s the world No.1.
It was also a successful Masters for myself with four of my five selections winning. The pick of the bunch being Cameron Smith, T2nd at 70/1 EW.
The young Australian was just so unlucky with some stunning golf that DJ was simply on fire and unstoppable. Smith done what no other golfer could do all weekend, completing all four rounds in the 60s and yet could only collect second best.
My banker and NAP of the tournament prevailed with Tiger Woods getting the better of Phil Mickelson in the match bet and that was even after taking 10 shots on the par 3, 12th hole on the final round, but he still won comfortably.
Well done to all of you who followed my selections at The Masters .
The RSM Classic, as usual this weekend, will be played on two courses; The Seaside Course which is a man-made links set up totally unique to the United States and the other, The Plantation Course, a stunning parkland course featuring large creeks and lakes.
The weather is forecast for rain on Thursday with good conditions for the rest of the weekend and wind not being a factor so accuracy will be key.
Webb Simpson
For my first selection I’m going to suggest last year’s runner-up Webb Simpson (10/1 EW bet365).
The American is currently playing some impressive golf with yet another top 10 at The Masters last week. That’s two years in succession he’s finished in the Top 10 at Augusta.
Simpson has finished in the top 20 in all but one off his past nine tournaments. He won the RBC Heritage which has a similar feel to this event and it’s hard to oppose him here this weekend.
The market is sometimes a guide at these events and it’s easy to see why the bookmakers have him as a cut above the rest in this field. I feel Simpson can go one better than his play-off defeat to Tyler Duncan here last year and is definitely the one to beat .
Russell Henley
Another selection I like the look off is Russell Henley (28/1 EW Betfair).
Henley wasn’t at The Masters last week but in his previous seven tournaments he has finished in the top 10 on four of those occasions with the best of those a 3rd place at The CJ Cup and 4th at The Zozo Championship.
Henley has finished, fourth, sixth and tenth at this event in previous years since 2015 so knows how to play this course. He is ranked 9th in total shots gained, beating the field by an average of two shots per round and can back up these figures ranked 10th greens in regulation.
He is a graduate at The University of Georgia so is in familiar territory and could well prevail come Sunday.
Patton Kizzire
For my next selection I’m going to look further up the field and look for some decent value and for this reason I’m going to select Patton Kizzire (130/1 Betfair).
Winner of The Mayakuba Classic in 2017 and the Sony Open in 2018, Kizzire is definitely suited to these seaside events.
The American has produced some decent golf this year finishing 6th at The Travelers Championship and 11th at The Houston Open. He really seems to enjoy playing golf at this time of year in the run up to Christmas and with him being a resident here at Sea Island he simply cannot be ruled out on home soil at such a decent price. I think this represents remarkable value at 130/1 EW.
Sebastian Munoz v Corey Conners
For my final pick I’m going to again select a match bet and make it my NAP. I like the look of Sebastian Munoz 10/11 Betfair to beat Corey Conners over 72 holes especially after the gold Munoz has been producing of late, most notably 19th in The Masters last week. I think he safely has the measure of Conners here.
