The PGA Tour continues with another bumper extravaganza for all you golfing fanatics with this week’s Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California.
This elevated PGA Tour event brings all the top-ranked players together along with another mammoth prize purse. The 130 field with the top 65 including ties making it to the weekend will all be competing for a share of the staggering $20M prize pot with the winner collecting the Genesis Invitational title and a winner’s cheque for a cool $3.6M.
Joaquin Niemann will not be returning to the Riviera Country Club to defend his title having since defected to the LIV Golf Tour.
Riviera Country Club will be playing 7,322 yards long this week, it’s a par 71 parkland layout and it’s way up there amongst the best venues on the PGA circuit, it has hosted three majors over the years and will host the golfing events at the 2028 Olympics.
One player who will be in attendance this week is the one and only Tiger Woods who is available at 100/1 with Unibet, I wonder how many will have a few quid as a fun bet on Tiger, they could easily be collecting on Sunday evening but I doubt it very much as he’s been away from the game for far too long to make a dramatic comeback, but hey it’s Tiger so don’t rule out anything.
The weather is forecast to be mostly nice & pleasant throughout with some clouds on Friday & Saturday. Breezes will peak at around 10mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 2.30 pm on Thursday afternoon.
So let’s move on with this week’s golf betting tips.
Genesis Invitational Predictions
Sungjae Im 30/1 EW Betfred 1-5 places
For my first and main prediction at the Riviera Country Club I’m going to strongly recommend Sungjae Im 30/1 EW Betfred 1-5 places or 22/1 EW Ladbrokes 1-10 places.
The 24-year-old kid from South Korea ticks all the boxes for me this week. In the last half dozen events that Sungjae has entered, he has finished inside the Top 20 at five of them with three being inside the Top 10.
Last week he was T6th at the Phoenix Open and his event before that was 4th at the Farmers Insurance Open.
The South Korean is yet to crack this course having missed the cut twice but 33rd place last year showed major signs of improvement. That effort last year saw Sungjae card an opening round 66 and a final round 67 but 75 on the Saturday ruled out any chances. But it’s clear to see he can negotiate his way around what can be a tricky venue if not accurate.
Winner twice on the PGA Tour at such a young age when bagging the Shriners Children’s Open and also The Honda Classic could have been much better with so many runner-up finishes which include T2nd at The Masters in 2020.
I’m going on this kid’s fine recent form to get him over the line in a star-studded field when he makes another visit to the winner’s enclosure with a victory in the Golden State this coming Sunday.
Max Homa 22/1 EW 1-5 places Bet365
For my next best bet I’m going to advise Max Homa 22/1 EW 1-5 places Bet365. Can also be found at 16/1 with Ladbrokes paying 1-10 places.
Where do I start with the 32-year-old native from Burbank, California? I’m only going back eight events here and you’ll soon see for yourself how much Homa is on fire at the moment.
Let’s start with his worst performance which was last week where he finished a very respectable 39th at the Phoenix Open .
Now that we’ve got that out the way let’s get to the juicy stuff where he has finished inside the Top 20 at all the others apart from 23rd at The CJ Cup.
Two victories include a victory in his home state just the other week when scooping the Farmers Insurance and that can be backed up with another winning performance at the Fortinet Championship where he successfully defended his crown from 2021.
Another two worth a mention from his past eight tournaments include 3rd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and 3rd at The Tour Championship.
With six victories already to his name on the PGA Tour I’m thinking with that recent W in his own back garden, a return home can only mean one thing for Max Homa as he makes it a magnificent seven with the locals spurring him on all the way to victory at Riviera this weekend.
Tony Finau 16/1 1-8 places William Hill
For my final outright pick, I’m going to suggest Tony Finau 16/1 1-8 places William Hill.
Now I’m fully aware that I’ve tipped the 33-year-old gentle giant from Salt Lake City on a few occasions already this year but as I’ve said, I just feel another W is imminent and I’ve already mentioned that one of those could possibly be his maiden major this year.
I’m afraid T14th last week at the Phoenix Open isn’t enough to put me off, in fact, quite the opposite. That’s now Finau’s past six events where he has finished no worse than 16th place, that’s truly phenomenal and a golfer who is in the form of his life with a victory awaiting, hopefully, this coming Sunday .
Three of the above-mentioned finishes were inside the Top 10 with the pick of the bunch being the victory at the Houston Open.
If gets even better the further back you go, in his last dozen events he has won no less than three of them with the other two being back-to-back victories at the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Seven of those attempts were inside the Top 10 so I hope you can all forgive me for including the talented American again this week.
If nothing develops for Tony Finau at this week’s Genesis Invitational then I’ll definitely need to get my radar checked out but until then I’m going to keep the faith and hope Tony Finau delivers with yet another PGA crown this weekend when he holds the Genesis Invitational trophy aloft then adds it to an already busy cabinet.
Now all that’s left is the match bet and for this week Nap I’m going to point you all in the direction of that man again, Tony Finau to get the better of Xander Schauffele over 72 holes who has had his injury concerns with a bad back recently. It could just be a tournament too much for Schauffele 10/11 Nap Bet365.
