Golf Betting Tips: RBC Canadian Open Preview and Predictions

06/06/2022 admin

It’s the penultimate event on the PGA Tour before next week’s US Open, this week we’re at St Georges Golf and Country Club, Ontario, Canada for the RBC Canadian Open.

It’s the return of what has been called the fifth major and a welcome return at that. With no event since 2019, it’s Rory McIlroy who returns three years later to defend his crown.

St George’s will be playing a much shorter 7,014 yards this week, it’s a par 70, parkland track where the key attribute will be power and accuracy especially with irons, oh and sublime scrambling out of bunkers with so many to avoid.

The 156 field, with the top 65, including ties, making the cut, will all be competing for a share of the $8.7m prize purse with the winner collecting the title and a cheque for $1,368,000.

It was a case of “ifs, buts and maybes” last weekend as we had to eventually settle for two T3rd places on both the PGA & DP World Tours.

Patrick Cantlay finished T3rd at the Memorial Tournament but it was still a profitable return if you were on the 30 year old at 18/1. Meanwhile over on the DP World Tour, Victor Perez, recommended at 40/1, really should have won for the second week running but it wasn’t to be for the Frenchman, however the T3rd place was enough to deliver a tidy profit at around 10/1 so well done to everyone who took advantage. It was yet another profitable weekend if you follow our selections.

So let’s get back to this weeks RBC Canadian Open.

The weather forecast is for rain on Thursday and Saturday with Friday and Sunday seeing the best of the weather with sunny and warm conditions. Breezes will peak at around 12mph so shouldn’t pose much problems.

This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 11.45am (on the red button) on Thursday morning.

C T Pan

For my first and main selection at this weeks RBC Canadian Open I’m going to point you in the direction of C.T Pan 80/1 EW SportNation.

The 30 year old from Chinese Tapei has three Top 20 finishes this year and St George’s could be just what the Olympic bronze medalist needs, he’s a specialist on these shorter courses.

I also wouldn’t imagine that the 80/1, on offer by only two firms that I can see, will last much longer so my advice is take it while it’s available.

C T Pan is currently ranked 8th on the PGA Tour Going for the Green, Birdie or better and it’s these stats that could prove pivotal, whoever can stay out these bunkers the most will be challenging on the back nine this Sunday.

More than half of Pan’s twelve Top 10 finishes have come on tracks shorter than 7,200 yards, the most impressive being his victory at the RBC Heritage in 2019, his maiden and only PGA Tour title.

Don’t read too much into C T Pan’s finish last week at the Memorial Tournament, the reason I say this is that although T53rd isn’t all that bad, it could have been much much better if it wasn’t for carding a 10 on the par 5, 11th hole on the opening round, what’s even more bizarre is that he still made the cut.

As you all know I’m always on the look out for value and on the prowl for when the firms may be offering generous helpings and I just have a feeling that this may with the case with all them firms made to look silly to the delight of us all when C T Pan scoops his second PGA crown winning the RBC Canadian Open.

Corey Conners

For my next suggestion I’m going to advise the home favourite, Corey Conners 22/1 EW Bet365.

We have seen a trend already this year with players winning in their own backyard and that trend could continue in Ontario this weekend. The 30 year old Canadian is currently ranked 8th SG Off the Tee this year on the PGA Tour and if he arrives on home soil producing those figures then he will certainly be in contention and a likely candidate to win this event.

Another with only the one PGA crown, when winning the Valero Texas Open in 2919, Conners is far too good not to win again anytime soon. He has been producing some sublime golf lately and came close recently at the WGC Dell Matchplay when finishing in 3rd place.

A return to home soil could bring with it a return to the winner’s podium so I’m including Corey Conners to feed of the crowd as his fans cheer him on to victory in Ontario, Canada this coming Sunday.

Justin Thomas

For my next selection I’m really liking the look of Justin Thomas 10/1 EW 1-8 places William Hill.

Now the reason I like this selection so much is that it’s so much stacked in our favour considering a place in the top eight will return a profit.

JT is not just the iron specialist in this field but he is also the par 3 king and with five par 3s to negotiate around St George’s, this is where the tournament could be won and lost.

With the driver staying safely in the bag for the most part, probably JT’s weakness to be fair, then it’s the iron precision specialist who could dominate this field and run away with this.

The most recent major winner, now 29 years old, JT owns almost every stat and dominates this field with these figures, 20th SG Around the green, 19th SG Off the Tee, 10th SG Approach The Green, 5th SG Tee To Green and finally 4th SG Total. This is as consistent as it gets and if anyone can show me better all round figures then you can have my job.

Better take this opportunity to say I’m only joking to save Admin a headache just incase someone proves me wrong he he!

Listen I really don’t like taking the hot favourite at any tournament but for any profiteers I can only see one outcome, you will get some kind of return on your 10/1, whether it’s an outright win then happy days but if it’s just a place then still can’t complain, profit’s, profit at the end of the day.

Hole In One

For my final selection this week in Canada I’m going to advise that there is a hole in one at 5/6 Nap. With five par 3s on offer surely someone in this 156 field nails it at 5/6 Bet365. 5pts Super Banker Nap.
