The DP World Tour is in the Middle East this week for the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club, Doha, Qatar.
If you’ll all be kind enough to forgive me, it’s the final day of my holiday before jetting home tomorrow so my preview for this event will be briefer than usual.
It’s a pretty weak field so you may just let me off the hook and cut me some slack until I return home. Hopefully I can make it up to you all if I can pick out the winner.
This track is playing 7466 yards long, it’s a par 72 desert layout and should suit a links style golfer especially with the strong winds forecast over the weekend.
I tipped Antoine Rozner to win this event last year and if anyone can remember, it was that mammoth 60ft putt on the 18th green that won the Frenchman the title.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout but winds are expected to reach 30mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 9am GMT on Thursday morning.
So let’s try and narrow down this weaker than usual field and single out the winner for the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
George Coetzee
For my first and main selection I’m going to advise George Coetzee 20/1 EW Bet365.
The 35 year old from Pretoria, South Africa should relish this challenge at an event he has finished runner-up in not once but twice.
Before last week’s respectable 25th place at the Steyn City Championship, Coetzee had two Top 10 finishes. He was 4th at the MyGolfLifeOpen and before that 9th at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic. That’s form that should hold well around here and Coetzee clearly enjoys this event.
Coetzee has six finishes at T12th or better here in eight attempts so could use his expertise and knowledge to figure out how to finally win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
Romain Langasque
For my next selection I’m going to point you in the direction of Romain Langasque 30/1 EW Bet365.
I tipped the 26 year old Frenchman to win the matchbet Nap last weekend on the DP World Tour and he kept our amazing run going beating Julien Brun comfortably.
Langasque has produced quality golf on both his previous two starts that have resulted in Top 10 finishes. He was T8th last week at the Steyn City Championship and T9th the week before at the MyGolfLifeOpen.
With this Doha course open to the elements this week and winds forecast to cause potential havoc, Langasque will be eyeing this up as a chance to take advantage and double up on his DP World Tour crowns with a victory, his first since winning the ISPS Handa Wales Open in 2020.
Antoine Rozner
For my next pick I’m going to stick with the defending champion who’s odds are almost double from what they were last year when he won. Antoine Rozner is available at 50/1 with most firms but I’m selecting PaddyPower for the 1-7 places.
Last year as mentioned previously, I selected the 29 year old from Paris, France to win this event at 28/1 so the 50/1 on offer this time around looks more than tempting.
It’s fair to say that since winning this last year the Frenchman hasn’t really been firing on all cylinders but he has been steady. His best performance since was 4th at the AVIV Dubai Championship but he did have another Top 10 finish when finishing 9th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.
This could be what Rozner needs this week, on a course that will more than suit his game although it’s not the same venue he won at last year.
Sam Burns successfully defended his title last weekend at The Valspar Championship so who’s to say Antoine Rozner can’t do the same this weekend at the Qatar Masters.
Calum Hill to miss the cut
For my final selection this week it’s not the customary matchbet. Instead I’m going to advise Calum Hill 13/8 Bet365 Nap to miss the cut as it’s the Scot’s first competition in four months since returning from injury. It could be too much too soon.
