The DP World Tour resumes this week in Germany with the BMW International Open at GolfClub Munchen Eichenried, Munich.
The 156 field, with the top 65 including ties making the cut, will all be playing for a share of the €2m prize purse with the winner collecting the title and a cheque for €333,330.
GolfClub Munchen Eichenried will be playing 7,284 yards long this week, it’s a par 72, parkland track where low scoring will be on show throughout.
Viktor Hovland won this event in 2021 when beating his closest challenger Martin Kaymer with two shots to spare but will not return this year to defend his crown. Hovland’s winning scorecard was reading -19.
The weather is forecast for mostly sunny and warm conditions throughout with no breezes to contend with. Friday could see thunderstorms in the afternoon.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 11.30am on Thursday morning.
Robert MacIntyre
For my first and main selection in Munich this week I’m going to single out the one and only Robert MacIntyre 35/1 EW Bet365.
The talented 25 year old from Oban seems to have been fairly quiet recently don’t you think? Maybe that’s a clue right there, it’s time for Oor Bob to pull his socks up just in-time for The 150th Open Championship at St Andrews in a few weeks time.
Bob MacIntyre could easily ignite in preparation for St Andrews and I wouldn’t be surprised if that included a victory. MacIntyre now has the luxury to play on both the PGA and DP World Tours, including majors and that could be another clue.
In my book, Bob is head and shoulders above most in this field but recent form has been up and down, he’d be the first to admit that. However, he has produced some good performances this year, T23rd at The Masters is definitely worth a mention, 15th at The Genesis Invitational, T9th at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and T13th at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
Bob is still inside the World’s Top ranked 100 players, currently 95 and he will be aiming to not just stay inside the Top 100 but to rise into the Top 50. He can certainly make a good start in preparation for St Andrews and ranking points with a comeback victory in Munich, his first since 2020 when collecting his only crown to date, The Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown.
Jordan Smith
For my next suggestion I’m going to point you in the direction of Jordan Smith 22/1 EW Bet365.
The 29 year old Englishman from Bath has been flashing up on my radar recently and I have included him on a couple of occasions this season where he nearly done the business for both us and him.
Jordan Smith has six Top 20 finishes in ten attempts this year but it gets even better as four of them were Top 10 finishes with two being runners up medals. 2nd at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship at the start of this year was followed with another second prize at the MyGolfLife Open. Other performances worth a mention include 9th at the Dubai Desert Classic and 10th last time out at the Porsche European Open.
If that’s not enough to tempt you then have a look at some of Smith’s stats this year, he is ranked on The DP World Tour 8th Driving Accuracy, 5th Stoke Average, 20th Driving Distance and the one that sticks out like a sore thumb, he is currently 1st on the Tour for Greens in Regulation.
The latter figure could be the one that matters around here at GolfClub Munchen as Jordan Smith doubles up with DP World Tour victory number on his way to collecting the BMW International Open crown on Sunday afternoon.
Billy Horschel
For my next selection I’m sorry I’m going to have to include the hot favourite but hey it’s still a good price, well if he wins or gets a place that is. Billy Horschel 12/1 EW 1-8 place’s Boylesports looks like a banker in my book for all you profiteering punters out there.
When you consider that a place in the Top 8 returns profit then what are you all waiting for? Listen, the 35 year old American from Florida is world number 14 for a reason and nobody in this field even comes close.
The winner of The Memorial Tournament just a few weeks back can show his class from start to finish in Munich this week. If he does just that then he could easily run away with this in a canter.
The magnificent seven-time champion on both the PGA & DP World Tours won the flagship event last year on the DP Tour when bagging the BMW PGA Championship. He seems to really enjoy playing on the DP World Tour just as much as the PGA Tour and usually always brings his A-game.
With six Top 20 finishes this year amongst the world’s golfing elite that include the victory at The Memorial Tournament and a runners-up place at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The writing could already be on the wall for Billy Horschel to put on a display and have it all his way yet again as he celebrates with yer another BMW title, this time the International having won two BMW Championship events on both sides of the big pond.
Billy Horschel v Louis Oosthuizen
For my final selection it’s the customary matchbet and this week in Munich I’m going to advise Billy Horschel to beat Louis Oosthuizen 4/5 Nap Betfair. In fact take that back , it’s going to be another 5pts Super Banker Nap! No pressure then as the Super Naps are still 100% unbeaten to date. If you seen Oosthuizen last week at the US Open, he just looked so out of sorts and not his usual self, no wonder with all this LIV stuff and I’m also thinking he could be doing without a trip to Germany right now.
