Friday at Glorious Goodwood is full of competitive group-race action with four on the card; though it will be hard for anything to lay a blow on superstar sprinter Battaash in the King George Qatar Stakes at 3.15pm as he seeks win number four in the top sprint.
Racing is underway at 1.10pm and concludes at 4.55pm. Our expert marks your card for the latest action and remember every race from Glorious Goodwood is available via live streaming when logged into MansionBet.
1.10 – TDN Australia Handicap (1m4f)
After dispatching his rivals at Newmarket in a novice heat with some abandon, Al Qaqaa will be a popular choice for punters now for in-form Jim Crowley and William Haggas.
The War Front colt has leading claims but so, too, does MAFIA POWER. Richard Hannon’s son of Gleneagles had fair form behind Zabeel Champion prior to a decisive Haydock success a fortnight ago and looks set for a big role now stepped up in distance in what should be a true run race.
Tip: Mafia Power
1.45 – Saint Clair Oak Tree Stakes (Fillies’ And Mares’ Group 3, 7f)
A dual Group 1 winner in France, ONE MASTER (15/8)
comes here off the back of an excellent fourth in the Falmouth Stakes when only beaten a length at the line having made up plenty late ground. The drop back to 7f is a positive and, in this lesser grade, she makes most appeal.
Frankie Dettori and Jessica Harrington teamed up for victory at Royal Ascot last month and improving Valeria Messalina (9/1)
is noted here. She ran well in the Irish 1,000 Guineas on reappearance and improved to win since in this grade. More to come from her with her three-year-old allowance.
Tip: One Master
2.15 – Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3, 1m)
Having turned the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot into something of a procession, KHALOOSY (4/5)
appeared to be heading for a future in group-race company. He makes the first step on that ladder now and Roger Varian has seemingly found an excellent starting point. He’s still a work in progress and looks to be holding the aces.
Tilsit and My Oberon won their most recent starts in fine style in novice company and can make more inroads, though perhaps not enough to dent the favourites’ progress.
Tip: Khaloosy
2.45 – Unibet Golden Mile Handicap (1m)
Not for the faint of heart this tough handicap. It’s also extremely tough for punters to solve and some luck in running will be required.
That said, PROMPTING (4/1)
is already 2-2 since joining David O’Meara and his most recent win at York last weekend strongly suggests that he’s going to have a major claim under a penalty as he still appears to be ahead of the handicapper.
Similar sentiments apply to Cliffs Of Capri, who also boasts excellent form on this track, while Bunbury Cup second Sir Busker completes a trio of likely sorts.
Tip: Prompting
3.15 – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2, 5f)
Can anything stop BATTAASH (4/11)
winning a fourth successive renewal of this race? Highly unlikely given his utter dominance at Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand.
He’s too fast for anything and if Jim Crowley lets him go from the gates again he should win with plenty to spare, whereas as last year he was allowed to bide his time and pick off Houtzen at his ease.
Last year’s Molecomb winner Liberty Beach was third behind him at Royal Ascot and, having run into a rejuvenated A’Ali since at Sandown, can pick up the minors.
Tip: Battaash
3.45 – L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3, 1m4f)
Perhaps the toughest race on the card to assess, with little to separate last year’s winner Desert Encounter, the likeable Communique and Hardwicke Stakes second Alounak on paper.
It would be hard to claim surprise should any of that trio win but PABLO ESCOBARR (9/2)
is an improving four-year-old with his share of good form in the book already. He’s run well on both starts this summer and is a course winner, which bodes well as he seeks a statement success.
Tip: Pablo Escobarr
4.20 – New Unibet Instant Roulette Nursery (6f)
ZAMAANI had already run well behind the likes of subsequent Listed/Group 2 winner Tactical and Woodcote scorer Twaasol prior to opening his own account at Windsor this month.
He merely needed to be pushed out by William Buick and, despite an opening mark of 89 demanding he concede plenty weight today, he’s likely to continue the excellent recent form of the Simon & Ed Crisford operation. C&D winner Perotto can give him something to think about in the run.
Tip: Zamaani
4.55 – British E.B.F. EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (6f)
This may be a useful fillies’ maiden to end the card. Sarsaparilla sets a fair standard but the debut effort of VENTURA DIAMOND at Sandown was boosted here on Wednesday by Miss Jingles’ success, and Richard Fahey’s charge looks sure to step forward when tackling 6f under the champion jockey.
The newcomers are much-feared, with Enoughisgoodenough and Beautiful News promising on paper, while £300,000 breeze-up purchase Meu Amor could go very well for a trainer with a super Goodwood strike-rate.
Tip: Ventura Diamond
