Leeds had been one of the form teams in the Championship prior to the international, rising from 15th in the table to 3rd and looking like serious promotion contenders.
The same can’t be said for Rotherham who’s 5-0 defeat at Watford was the final straw for the board who relieved manager Matt Taylor of his duties in the aftermath.
The Millers have yet to replace him so number two Wayne Carlisle will be in charge tonight. He’ll be hoping his side can build on some decent home form which reads W2 D4 L2 – those defeats coming against table-toppers Leicester and a 95th minute defeat against Bristol City.
With Leeds at just 2/5 to win away from home this one might be best left alone.
In Scotland the weekend kicks-off with a couple of Friday night cup ties.
Dunfermline host Raith for a third time this season in the Fife Derby and it’s the visitors who have come out on top in the previous two meetings.
Rovers are enjoying a fine season in the Championship, sitting second and 12 points ahead of their local rivals.
The bookies can barely separate the sides with the Pars at 6/4 and Raith slightly bigger at 31/20. Based on league form and the previous two meetings the value has to be with the visitors at East End Park.
Jeanfield Swifts will be out to cause another upset at New Douglas Park tonight when they take on Clyde.
The Swifts are two division below the Bully Wee in the Scottish Pyramid but that didn’t stop them dishing out a 6-0 thumping to League Two side Elgin City in the previous round.
Clyde are seven points behind Elgin and rooted to the bottom of League Two so it’s easy to see why the Perthshire side will be popular with punters at 9/4. That price has been nibble away at all week and is only likely to get short as kick-off approaches.
It might be better take a chunk of the 13/8 on two or more goals for the Jeanie while it’s still available.
