Rangers were staring down the barrel three minutes in to injury time at Pittodrie on Tuesday night but an incredible last-ditch two-goal turnaround kept Michael Beale’s side in the title race.
Beale has endured a tumultuous start to his tenure in the Ibrox hotseat, his side coming from behind twice to win 3-2 in his opening two games. On the plus side his team have shown a never say die attitude but on the other they look suspect in defence and lacking a bit of imaginiation.
Ross County provide the next test for the Light Blues but the goals have been flowing for the Gers in recent meetings between the sides. Rangers have scored 28 goals in their last four clashes with the Staggies (4,5,4,4,3,4,4) and we could see a few more tonight.
The way their defence is playing they’ll need to score at least two to win. They should get the job done but County are capable of scoring, they’ve notched eight in the last five clashes with Rangers. An away win coupled with Over 2.5 Goals pays 5/6.
The night’s other Premiership match sees the team with the worst home record (Motherwell) host the team with the worst away record (Kilmarnock) so something has to give.
Killie were well beaten at Tynecastle last weekend and manager Derek McInnes has yet to find a a winning formula on the road this season. If pushed ‘Well look the best option to take all three points at 21/20.
In the Championship the top two meet at Somerset Park. Dundee finally look like they’ve got their act together but Ayr United just won’t go away. They lost at Partick Thistle last weekend but still top the table by a point.
The Dark Blues are unbeaten in eight in all competitions and have won their last six so make the trip to Ayr in good shape. A win tonight would see them go top for the first time since August. Both teams have scored and there’s been over 2.5 goals in three of the last four meetings, a repeat pays 20/21.
Also in the Championship Cove Rangers have the chance to put some daylight between themselves and bottom side Hamilton. The sides played out an incredible 4-4 draw when they last met and despite bing eighth in the table the Wee Rangers have only scored three fewer than Dundee. The home win appeals at 6/5 against the Accies who have picked up just one point from their last six matches but goals could be the best option with Cove 11/10 to score two or more.
In League Two, Elgin City could be a bit of value at 2/1 against second placed Stirling Albion. The visitors have wobbled a bit of last, winning just one in their last five whilst the hosts have moved in to third in the table off the back of three wins in their last four.
A three and half hour Friday night trip up to Borough Briggs just before Christmas isn’t the kindest of fixtures for The Binos and the 2/1 on the home win looks on the generoud side.
