Friday nights are going to be Irish Premier Division nights over the summer and with a bit of luck we’ll be able to make the bookies pay.
This time last week Shamrock Rovers were a point behind Derry City in second place but wins on Friday and Monday coupled with five dropped points by the Candystripes sees the champions now enjoying a four point lead at the summit.
Rovers should rack up another three points against struggling UCD who make the trip across Dublin this evening.
The Hoops are a measly 1/16 to win and should do so with something to spare. However UCD have managed to get themselves on the scoresheet in their last four defeats so there could be goals at Tallaght.
Rovers have hit three or more in 11 of the last 17 meetings between the sides but are just 2/5 to do so tonight. With that in mind it could pay to back a couple of goals in the first half which is a more appealing 4/5.
Match of the night should be in Derry where Bohemians are the visitors. Ruaidhrí Higgins’ injury hit side are now winless in three and they’ll be without captain Patrick McEleney who was injured in their 4-1 loss at St Patrick’s on Monday alongside Michael Duffy and Cameron Dummigan.
That could give the visitors some hope of taking something from Brandywell tonight just like they did back in April when a solitary Dean Williams strike decided the match.
Bohs are 17/4 to claim the three points that would see them leapfrog their opponents on the table but they’ve come up short against quality opposition too often this season to get too heavily involved.
Bet of the night though looks to be in-form St Pat’s at Drogheda. The Dubliners made it six wins from seven with an impressive victory over Derry on Monday and Jon Daly’s men should add another tonight at Weavers Park.
The Drogs have slipped to second bottom of the table following a promising start to the season. It’s now just two wins in eleven so the 20/21 (SBK) on a St Pat’s side that must be brimming with confidence looks too good to ignore.
