The weekend’s action kicks-off with a live Friday night match between struggling Nottingham Forest and a Spurs side trying to recover their early season form.
Forest fans have rallied round manager Steve Cooper in recent weeks as he appeared to be under pressure following four straight defeats but a 1-1 draw at Fulham last weekend stopped the rot.
They need to get a few more points on the board, otherwise they could be in danger of getting sucked in to the relegation dogfight and Friday night under the lights at the City Ground should bring out the best in them.
Tottenham were well worth their 4-1 win over Newcastle last time out but the Magpies’ away record is abysmal so the Spurs fans shouldn’t be getting too carried away.
Nevertheless it was a morale-boosting win which keeps them within touch distance of the top four and a win tonight would draw them level on points with Manchester City.
On the outright market it’s 4/6 on the Tottenham win which feels a little skinny at the City Ground where the hosts have only lost seven of their 26 home matches since returning to the top flight.
We’ve regularly highlighted Spurs’s trend of scoring early recently with goals coming in the 26th, 11th, 6th, 22nd, 3rd and 6th minute of their last six games. The first goal time is set at 26 minutes tonight but this one has the feel of a slow-burner with Forest likely happy to soak up some of the early pressure.
A late goal could be a better option. The line is set high at 78:59 but it’s a bet that would’ve landed in more than half of Spurs’ fixtures so far and five of their last seven, and of course, we could benefit from extended added time.
