Punters will be glad to see the back of matchday six in Europe after some strange results owing to teams fielding fringe players and dead rubber fixtures. So let’s get the weekend started.
Brentford v Watford is this evening’s offering from the Premier League in a match that pits two promoted teams up against each other. There should be a buzz around the Brentford Community Stadium for this battle between the Bees v the Hornets!
Brentford are five points better of than Watford but they’ve now won just one their last eight in the league. That victory, a 1-0 home win over Everton, was their first on their own turf since the opening day of the season.
Watford have picked up a couple of eye-catching wins under Claudio Ranieri (5-2 v Everton, 4-1 v Man Utd) but those are the only two since the likeable Italian took charge. That said he’s only just coming out of a tough run of fixture which also included clashes with Man City (1-3), Chelsea (1-2), Leicester (2-4), Arsenal (0-1) and Liverpool (0-5) so he should be cut a little slack.
Significantly, Ivan Toney is set to miss out tonight for the Bees. He’s joint top scorer and a real focal point for the team so they’ll miss his presence up front. Despite Toney’s absence Brentford can still get on the scoresheet here. Forss and Wissa have both scored the same number of goals as Toney and Watford’s leaky defence has seen them concede in 26 consecutive top-flight matches.
At the other end Brentford have conceded 12 in their last six. BTTS has landed in seven of the last nine meetings between the sides and is 4/5 (SBK) to cop again while over 2.5 goals pays 1/1 at SBK.
