The top four are all in action in Ireland on Friday night but it might not be all plain sailing for the teams near the top.
Dundalk look the most certain to win, up against bottom side UCD. The Lillywhite’s juggernaut was stalled by Shlelbourne last week when they were held to a 0-0 draw, the first time they’d dropped points in six matches.
They’ve banged in 25 goals in their last seven meetings with UCD so no surprise to see them as short as 1/4 to win. But they’ve had to eke out a few 1-0 wins recently and their solid defence has given them a platform for what could yet be a title challenge. 14 goals conceded is the joint lowest in the league so the even money on a home win to nil appeals considering UCD have the lowest goals tally in the division with just 12 in 20.
League leaders Shamrock Rovers are 2/5 to win away at second-bottom Finn Harps. Defeats to Dogheda and Dundalk have brought a doze of reality to Rovers but they’ve responded well to win against rivals Bohemians and fellow Dubliners St Pats to open up a 10-point gap at the top. The short price won’t be for everyone but a Rovers win with Over 2.5 goals in the game at 5/4 is a bet that’s landed in the last three meetings between the sides.
A Dundalk & Shamrock Rovers Double should landbut it’s a bit short to be putting up as a Super Single at 3/4.
Third placed St Patricks could be vulnerable at a very short looking 4/9. They’ve been a model of inconsistency lately (LWDDLWLWDL) and welcome a Drogheda side who are unbeaten in their last five.
It’s sixth v third at Dalymount as Bohemians welcome Derry City to the capital. Bohs came off second best in the Dublin Derby last weekend so must pick themselves up against a Derry side who boast the best away form in the top flight. They’ve tasted defeat away from home just twice this season and have already won at Bohemians, notching a 2-1 back in April when a 94th minute Akintunde goal nicked the points.
Both teams have scored in the last seven meetings and a repeat, in what should be a tight game, is 4/5.
