Just when you think the international break is over it reels you back in. Thankfully today’s excitement is off the pitch and not at the expense of domestic action.
37 countries will be represented at the 5pm World Cup draw in Doha this evening, among them England, Scotland and Wales although the latter two will most likely have to battle it out for just a finals place in a play-off finale in June.
That shouldn’t temper the excitement of seeing the home nations in the draw though and for the World Cup dreams to begin. Here’s how the seedings look;
- Pot 1 – Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal.
- Pot 2 – Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia.
- Pot 3 – Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.
- Pot 4 – Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Costa Rica/New Zealand, UAE/Australia/Peru.
Hull and Huddersfield get the weekend kicked-off in England with both in need of points at either end of the table. Automatic promotion looks likley to be out reach for Huddersfield but they’re bang in the mix for a play-off spot. They’ve played more games than teams round about them so can’t afford any slip ups and would move three points behind second place Bournemouth with a win, albeit they’ll have played four games more.
At the other end Hull are flirting with the relegation zone but just can’t seem to put a run of wins together. Their home record is the worst in the division – just five wins from 19 – while Huddersfield have one of the best away records in the Championship.
There’s no certainties at this stage of the season but the Terriers look a good price at 17/10 to claim the three points that will aid their promotion chances.
In Scotland Kilmarnock are in pole position for a swift return to the Premiership. Morton will offer stiff opposition at Cappielow but a win for Killie will see them go seven points clear of challengers Abroath who play at Partick Thistle on Saturday.
Momentum is with Derek McInnes’ side following four wins on the bounce and they can make it five at even money tonight. They’ve scored two or more in each of those four victories and are 6/5 to net twice. Lafferty and Shaw could be the men to fire Killie to all three points tonight.
Kelty Hearts are probably best avoided at 3/5. Kevin Thomson’s side have already wrapped up the League Two title and would be forgiven for free-wheeling it for the remainder of the season. They wouldn’t be the first to switch-off after all the hard work has been done. There’s been a bit of money for opponents Edinburgh City (17/4 now from 19/4) but they’re not very reliable and have lost their last two.
