Ayr United are the surprise leaders of the Scottish Championship and can open up a four point gap over pre-season favourites Dundee with a win at Somerset Park tonight.
The Honest men remain the only unbeaten team in the division following wins over newly promoted sides Queen’s Park and Cove Rangers and two draws with Abroath and Hamilton who both sit in the bottom three. That followed a disappointing League Cup campaign in which they failed to win any of their four games. So it’s hard to know just how sustainable their current run will be.
Their form will be put to the test by a Dundee side, managed by Gary Bowyer and boasting plenty of experience. Their 0-0 draw at home to Morton leaves question marks over backing them at 8/5 tonight but a win could see them top the table.
The Dens Park side recorded a comfortable 3-0 win on their last trip to Ayrshire and if they’ve aspirations of bouncing straight back to the Premiership they need to be taking something from games like these. We can back them at 1.975 on the Asian Handicap (0.0), so money back if it’s a draw.
Despite that goalless draw last week this Dundee side look to have goals in them. They scored 20 in seven matches prior to that and have goal threats around the park with no fewer than 10 players having already opened their account for the season. Over 2.5 Goals pays even money.
