We’re at the business end of Euro 2020 now and eight teams put their European Championship ambitions on the line over the next two days.
Belgium v Italy
Belgium v Italy would be plenty of neutrals’ idea of a final they’d like to see but one these nations will depart at the quarter-final stage after the two sides meet in Munich on Friday night.
Despite being ranked number one in the world bookies continue to underestimate the Belgians. Three of their four wins have come at odds of over even money and once more they’re backable at a very tempting best price of 5/2 at Marathonbet.
But Italy look like they’ll give Roberto Martinez’s side their toughest examination to date. There’s a club-feel about this Italian squad and that’s translated on to the picth where they’ve barely put a foot wrong. Austria forced extra-time against the Azzurri in the last round and that might’ve been a timely reminder to the Italians that they need to be on it every game if they’re to lift the Henri Delaunay trophy next Sunday.
There doesn’t look to be too much between the two sides so Italy feel a little short at 11/8, therefore Belgium feel the value bet again. Mark Walker agrees in his match preview where he’s also picked out a 14/1 Man of the Match tip.
Switzerland v Spain
After a stunning comeback and shoot-out win over France can Switzerland do it again and win against the odds gainst Spain? Well, they can draw inspiration from their last meeting at a major tournament between the two nations. That was back at the 2010 World Cup when Spain were easily the best team on the planet and the unfancied Swiss pulled off a shock 1-0 win.
Vicente Del Bosque’s side recovered to lift the trophy in South Africa but there’s no room for error this time round.
After just one goal in their opening two games the Spanish have struck 10 in the last last two with seven different players finding the net (plus an own goal).
That ability to score from all areas of the pitch must be a concern for the Swiss but the bookies have shown them a bit more respect after that shock win in the last round and they’re a best priced 5/1 (William Hill) to win inside 90 minutes. But it’s the Spanish who are hot favourites to progress; 8/13 to so in 90 minutes and 3/10 by any method.
KevMac reckons the goal-rush could continue in St Petersburg in his match preview and has two goal-related tips for the match.
