WE’RE now into the final few weeks across the major European leagues and tonight there’s a crucial match at the top of Ligue 1 in France as clubs close in on securing their seat at the lucrative Champions League table.
St Etienne are fling at the moment and victory tonight would see them lea frog Lyon into the automatic qualification spot for the UCL. They face a Montpellier side who’ll be fizzing after PSG’s shock cup final defeat means they won’t be able to qualify for the Europa League though their league position. They’ll still pose a stern threat and it’s a match where we should see goals.
St Etienne vs Montpellier (7.45pm)
It’s round 36 in Ligue 1 and the league’s form side St Etienne will be looking to continue their great run of results and boost their UCL qualification hopes.
After a pretty miserable first few months of 2019 that returned just 2 wins in 9 they have got their act together and have now won 6 of their last 7 games, collecting 19 points from the last 21 available which is terrific form to be in at this stage of the season.
Only PSG have won more games at home this season and they’ve not been shy of a goal – scoring 5, 2, 2, 3, 2, 2 and 3 in those last 7 games. they’ve scored at least 2 goals in 19 of their last 26 home matches in Ligue 2 and they’ll fancy doing so again against a Montpellier side who they’ve beaten in 9 of the last 10 matches at home with those games average over 2.5 goals.
Montpellier’s season is over (no thanks to PSG’s cup final defeat) but 9 of their last 11 games have seen both teams score with 8 of those going over 2.5 goals. They are in good shape coming into this and won’t make it easy for the hosts.
Should be open and end to end with both sides finding the net – could have easily posted over 2.5 goals at just under 4/5 but going over 3.5.

Five matches kicking off at 6.10pm in Austria and I’m going to have some loose change on a goal in the first 10 minutes and first 30 minutes in all five.
