SCOTLAND did it the hard way as usual but for once got there as we booked our Euro 2020 place in dramatic style.
Steve Clarke’s men enjoyed a rollercoaster ride in Belgrade as they beat Serbia on penalties on an historic night.
It was a thoroughly deserved win too as Scotland were by the far the better team before conceding an equaliser in the final minute.
Serbia dominated extra time but the Scots survived to take it to penalties and when David Marshall saved Aleksandr Mitrovic’s penalty we had ended a 22-year wait to quaify for a major tournament.
First up for Scotland will be the Czech Republic at Hampden then the big one – England at Wembley – and let’s just hope fans will be back in time for those matches.
Spare a thought for Northern Ireland who failed in their mission to make it to the finals after equalising late against Slovakia then conceding a winner in extra time. North Macedonia and Hungary also made it through.
There were some nice winners on the site and well done to them all including Scott Allot who tipped Harry Maguire to score for England at 8-1.
After all the drama of Thursday night there’s not too much to look at on Friday with a couple of South American World Cup qualifiers between Colombia vs Uruguay and Chile vs Peru.
In League Two it’s Bolton vs Salford and there are African Cup of Nations games and lower-league games across Europe.
It could be a no-bet day for me and I could certainly do with one as I recover from 120 minutes of torture.
