SCOTLAND, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all went to the wire in the search of a Euro 2020 place on a nervy night.
All three play-offs went to penalties with the Scots making it through at the expense of Israel and Northern Ireland shocking Bosnia-Herzegovina – but it was heartache for the Republic who los their shoot-out.
I watched the Scotland game and on that evidence I have to say we have no chance of winning the final against a good Serbia side that won in Norway.
Northern Ireland will fancy their chances against Slovakia who aren’t as strong as Bosnia but it’s bound to be tight again.
It might be the international break but after a few busy nights we have a quiet one on Friday.
There is a League One game between Fleetwood and Hull and a Betfred Cup clash featuring Dunfermline vs Falkirk and some international friendlies.
They mostly involve African nations although Japan face Cameroon and there are some Euro Under-21 qualifiers including Scotland vs Czech Republic and Belgium vs Wales.
So ahead of a busy weekend my only bet is a double on Dunfermline to win and Hull not to lose.
Championship outfit Dunfermline opened Group B with a 1-0 win at Dumbarton and will be thankful to get 90 competitive minutes under their belts after being sidelined for nearly seven months.
League One Falkirk didn’t play in midweek after being awarded a 3-0 win against a Kilmarnock side who decided to forfeit the tie rather than play their kids. That could go against them and Dunfermline are the shout at
I’ve been impressed with the way Hull have reacted to a horrible relegation from the Championship. They slid faster than a penguin on roller skates after selling Jarrod Bowen last season and went down after losing 14 of their last 16 games including an embarrassing 8-0 humbling by Wigan.
Hull stood by under-fire manager Grant McCann and have been rewarded with a 100 per cent start to the season with four wins and four clean sheets. Fleetwood on the other hand lie 21st with just one win and while Hull can win this at just under evens I’m taking them not to lose on my double.
Well done to all the winners on Thursday including maccathered who napped Scotland’s draw and the match to go to penalties at 5-1. My double was beaten by Bosnia not finding a winner against Northern Ireland and Erling Haaland failing to hit the target for Norway.
Daily Double
- Dunfermline
- Hull not to lose
- (7-5, Betfred)
