IT’S been a pretty dramatic build-up to the internationals with first Scotland then England seeing players forced to withdraw.
Scotland will be without Stuart Armstrong, Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie who are now self-isolating as well as injured quartet James Forrest, Oli Burke, Liam Palmer and Scott McKenna.
To be fair only Christie – Tierney’s absence simplifies the Andy Robertson/Tierney conundrum – is a major loss so Steve Clarke’s men should still be strong enough to get the job done and book a Euro 2020 play-off final with Norway or Serbia.
I’ve posted a separate preview here and check out Kevin Mac’s preview and predictions.
There are eight one-legged play-offs in all including Slovakia vs Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovina vs Northern Ireland and of course Norway vs Serbia where I’m backing prolific Borussia Dortmund hitman Erling Haaland to score.
And there are a handful of friendlies including England vs Wales and Russia vs Sweden. Tammy Abraham, Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho are out the England game after attending a surprise birthday party for the Chelsea striker.
England should still have enough to win the friendly at Wembley but as most people know I hate betting on friendlies.
On Wednesday though there was plenty of action unless you were looking at expected goals between Portugal and Spain.
That finished 0-0 while we had other scorelines such as France 7, Ukraine 1; Italy 6, Moldova 0; Germany 3, Turkey 3 and Poland 5, Finland 1. It was just like another weekend in the Premier League.
And one of the strangest results of the night was Andorra U-21s 3, England U-21s 3 as the visitors dropped their first point in seven group games as the minnows netted an injury-time equaliser.
I got the goals I needed too in the Betfred Cup to make it three winners in two days in Scotland. I did a bit of a both to score long shot but non-league sides Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers did themselves proud by netting in narrow defeats to Premiership St Johnstone and Hibs respectively to land a 27-10 winner.
My only bet for now is a Super Single on Haaland to score but I’ll add a double or treble after lunchtime.
and finally if you fancy a golf bet check out The Caddy’s tips for this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
1pt Both to Score Double
- Haaland to score
- (13-8, William Hill)
