FIVE British clubs were expected to be in this lunchtime’s Europa League last-16 draw but two were unexpectedly knocked out.
Celtic and Arsenal both suffered shock home defeats and that leaves Rangers flying the Scottish flag and Wolves and Man United fighting for England.
United are second favourites at 5-1 with William Hill on the outrights after battering 10-man Brugge 5-0 while Wolves are fourth in the book at 7-1 at bet365 after a string of impressive displays.
Inter, who beat Ludogorets behind closed doors, are 9-2 favourites at Ladbrokes, Betfred and others.
Rangers, who have performed well in Europe under Steven Gerrard, are 40-1 almost across the board.
Let us know who you fancy to go all the way after the draw’s made.
I got a bit of stick for tipping against Rangers and going for Celtic but isn’t that what most people fancied? Most Rangers fans I know didn’t give their side much chance in Braga although with hindsight some have changed their mind.
Rangers performed better than have done since Christmas and Celtic missed many chances to put away their tie against Copenhagen before being punished for a couple of defensive lapses. The Hoops certainly didn’t get any luck – the kind Romelu Lukaku had when he scored Inter’s winner. It’s a cracker so have a look.
My two Europa League bets were losers and it’s been a tough week so well done to any winners.
Tonight we have Norwich vs Leicester in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers’ side’s form has dipped and they were held at home to the Canaries so it might be better to go for goals rather than the away.
Portsmouth should be beating Rochdale in League One and in the first Scottish Cup quarter-final it’s Hibs vs Inverness. Again Hibs should win but their Championship visitors have a decent cup pedigree and are boosted by James Keatings winning his second appeal against his Challenge Cup campaign after becoming an internet sensation.
Elsewhere there are some top games on the Continent – including the rescheduled EL clash between Red Bull Salzburg and Eintracht Frankfurt – and usual lower-league offerings. I’ll look to post tips later but my focus is on Saturday’s games and ending the month on a high.
