Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the two matches in the Coppa Italia and the English Premier League. I’m backing both sides at home to secure comfortable victories to give us a nice odds against double.
Atalanta vs Venezia
🇮🇹 Coppa Italia
⏰ Wednesday 12th January, 16:30
After returning back to league action on Sunday, both Atalanta and Venezia will switch their focus to the cup on Wednesday afternoon. The pair go head to head to in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia at the Gewiss Stadium.
After their fixture with Torino was postponed last Thursday, Atalanta played their first game in 2022 on Sunday, emphatically defeating Udinese 2-6 away from home. That now means only the two Milan clubs have scored more than La Dea’s tally of 43. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have suffered just one defeat in their last 13 in Serie A and have won seven of their last nine, including a 4-0 victory over their upcoming opponents. Atalanta are unbeaten in all 11 matches against bottom half sides in Serie A so far this season, winning eight.
After their game too was postponed last Thursday, Venezia got back to league action on Sunday, suffering a 0-3 defeat at home to AC Milan. Paolo Zanetti’s side come into this match winless in their last seven in Serie A, losing five of them. Venezia have conceded 37 goals in the league so far, with 18 of them coming in their last seven matches. Venezia have lost all four games away to top half sides this season, conceding on 11 occasions.
West Ham United vs Norwich City
🏴 Premier League
⏰ Wednesday 12th January, 19:45
After booking their places in the 4th round of the FA Cup at the weekend, both West Ham and Norwich return to league business, as they go head to head at the London Stadium on Wednesday Evening.
Prior to their 2-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup on Sunday, West Ham had won back to back matches in the Premier League, winning away to both Watford and Crystal Palace. That has The Hammers in 5th place and they if they collect all three points, they’ll temporarily jump above Arsenal into 4th. That win over Leeds means David Moyes’s side have four of their last six at home against English opposition. Only the current top three have scored more than West Ham’s tally of 37 in the Premier League this season.
Norwich scored in the final quarter to see of League 1 Charlton in the FA Cup at the weekend. However, Norwich remain bottom and three points from safety, with Dean Smith’s side losing each of their last five in the league, conceding on 14 occasions. Norwich have only won once on their travels in the league this season, losing six of their nine matches. The Canaries have collected just 10 points in the Premier League this season, with only two of them coming against top half sides.
Bet of the Day
Atalanta have been beaten finalists in two of the last three editions of the Coppa Italia, but Gian Piero Gasperini will look to go one better this season. La Dea have won seven of their last nine in Serie A and I’m backing them to defeat a Venezia that’s without a win in their last seven, losing five. Venezia have conceded 18 goals in their last seven matches and given that Atalanta can score goals for fun, they should find the back of the net at least twice. West Ham come into this winning each of their last three matches, scoring nine goals, and they’ll be confident of securing all three points against a struggling Norwich side. Dean Smith’s side may have won in the cup against League 1 Charlton at the weekend, but they’ve lost each off their last five in the league, conceding 14 goals. The hammers know a win will see them jump into 4th and I expect them to do exactly that. Given only the top three have outscored West Ham in the Premier League, I’m happy to add in David Moyes’s side to score at least twice against a Norwich side leaking plenty of goals in recent weeks.
- Atalanta to Win & Over 1.5 Goals
- West Ham United to Win & Over 1.5 Goals
- Double Pays 6/5 (BoyleSports)
