Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Portuguese Primeira Liga and there’s a match that stands out to me for goals at both ends.
Benfica vs Gil Vicente
🇵🇹 Primeira Liga
⏰ Wednesday 2nd February, 19:00
Benfica will look to (at least temporarily) go level on points with Sporting CP in second, as they host Gil Vicente at the Estádio Da Luz. The hosts come into this in third, three points behind rivals Sporting and 12 points behind leaders Porto, albeit with a game in hand. The visitors come in this in 5th and can go within five points of fourth placed Braga with a win.
Despite taking the lead, Benfica went on to lose the final of the Taça da Liga, losing 1-2 to city-rivals Sporting CP at the weekend. In the league, interim boss Nélson Veríssimo has saw his side take seven points from their last three fixtures, but they have suffered defeat twice in their last seven. Only Porto (53) have scored more in the Primeira Liga than Benfica (52), with the Eagles failing to score just once all season. However, the capital club have struggled defensively this season, recording just seven clean sheets in their 19 league fixtures, with only three of them coming in their last 10. Only two of those clean sheets have came at the Estádio Da Luz, with those coming against two of the lowest scorers in the division, Paços de Ferreira (14) and Arouca (19).
Gil Vicente’s fine season continued last time out as they defeated Portimonense 1-0 at home. That result last time out means Gil Vicente come into this winning five of their last seven in the Primeira Liga, as well as three of their last four. Gil Vicente have also been strong on their travels this season, with Ricardo Soares’s side losing just one of their nine matches away, winning three and drawing four of their last seven. Gil Vicente have found the back of the net in 15 of their 19 league tussles this season, including in eight of their nine matches on the road.
Bet of the Day
Gil Vicente have had an excellent season so far and travel to Lisbon occupying a Conference League qualification position. Ricardo Soares’s side are in fine form, winning five of their last seven in the Primeira Liga, with their loss against reigning champions Sporting CP being their only defeat in their last nine. The Roosters have scored in 15 of their 19 league games this season and I can see them finding the back of the net against a Benfica side that’s kept just two clean sheets at home this season. Benfica rarely fail to score, with the Eagles scoring in 18 of their 19 Primeira Liga matches season, therefore both teams to score appeals to me here at a nice price.
