Gil Vicente will look to continue their strong record in front of their supporters this campaign as they welcome away-day strugglers Rio Ave to Barcelos in a fixture that I’m keen to back the hosts to score a couple of goals.
Gil Vicente’s 100% losing record away from home in the Primeira Liga this season continued last time out as they fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Famalicão. However, Vitor Campelos’ hosts have performed far better on home soil, winning W3-D1-L1 of their five Primeira Liga fixtures at home, only dropping points in a 2-3 defeat against reigning champions Benfica and in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Braga in their last home match in a game they scored an 89th-minute equaliser.
Rio Ave secured just their second win since promotion back to the Portuguese top flight and first since the opening day of the season last time out, as they defeated Boavista 2-0 at home. However, like their opponents, Luís Freire’s men have struggled on their travels this season, losing 5/6 (W0-D1-L5) of their away matches in league and cup, including a 2-1 loss at second-tier Torreense in the Taça de Portugal three weeks ago.

Only Braga (29) have scored more goals in the Portuguese top flight than Gil Vicente, with The Gilistas having scored 22 goals across their opening 10 matches, with a league-high 17 (77%) of them coming at home. Vitor Campelos’ hosts have scored two or more goals in each of their opening five league contests in front of their supporters – even scoring three or more in three (60%) of them – and I’m backing them to bag another double at home to a Rio Ave defence that has shipped multiple goals in six of their previous nine league outings, as well as in 5/6 (75%) of their road trips in league and cup this campaign.
