Longford Town will look to strengthen their position in the promotion playoff places, as they travel to Ferrycarrig Park to take on a Wexford side who are two places and ten points below them in the First Division table.
Wexford put an end to their five-match winless run last time out, as three second half goals gave them a 0-3 win away to Cobh Ramblers. lan Ryan’s side have collected 20 points from their opening 18 league fixtures ( W5-D5-L8), with all five of their victories coming against the bottom-two sides. Wexford have registered just three clean sheets in the league so far this season, with none of those coming at home. The Youths have the joint-third worst defensive record in the Irish second-tier, conceding on 30 occasions, with two-thirds of those coming in front of their own supporters.
Longford drew 1-1 for the second successive match last time out, as they scored late on to rescue a point against second-placed Cork City, meaning they’ve now lost just one of their last seven in the league (W3-D3-L1). Only the top-two have defeated Longford on their travels this season, with Gary Cronin’s side haven taken 14 points from a possible 24 away from home, with half of those points coming in their last three matches. De Town have scored in all nine matches against the current bottom-four sides in the Irish First Division, scoring on multiple occasions in seven of those, including in all four away from home.

Longford come into this suffering just one defeat in their last seven matches and they’ll be confident of defeating a Wexford side that’s collected 15 of their 20 points against the bottom-two sides in the division. lan Ryan’s hosts have struggled defensively in front of their own supporters, with them yet to keep a clean sheet, as well as conceding 20/30 of their goals in their nine fixtures at home. Gary Cronin’s side have scored in all nine of their matches against the current bottom-four, scoring two or more in seven of them and given the poor defensive record their opponents have at home, I’m happy to back Longford to find the back of the net at least twice, something they’ve already managed in their two previous meetings with Wexford this season.
