Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Nations League and I’ve selected two sides who should be too strong for their opponents to find the back of the net at least twice.
Gibraltar 🇬🇮 vs North Macedonia 🇲🇰
🇪🇺 Nations League
⏰ Sunday 5th June, 17:00
Two sides who are searching for their first victory in this years Nations League meet at Victoria Stadium on Sunday, as Gibraltar play host to North Macedonia.
Gibraltar kicked off their Nations League campaign with a 4-0 defeat in Tbilisi against Georgia on Thursday. Julio César Ribas’s side unsurprisingly failed to qualify for this years World Cup and were one of only two nations (other being San Marino) to lose all 10 of their qualifiers. Gibraltar conceded a whopping 43 goals in those qualifiers, with Los Llanis conceding at least three times in every single one of those fixtures.
North Macedonia managed to avoid defeat in their opening Nations League fixture, as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bulgaria in Razgrad. Despite defeating the Italians in their own backyard, the Risovi’s World Cup dreams were ended by Portugal in their playoff final. Blagoja Milevski’s side were impressive in World Cup qualifying, finishing second to Germany. North Macedonia scored a total of 19 goals in their six qualifiers against Armenia, Iceland and Lichtenstein.
Serbia 🇷🇸 vs Slovenia 🇸🇮
🇪🇺 Nations League
⏰ Saturday 5th June, 19:45
Two sides who began their Nations League campaign with defeat meet at the Rajko Mitić Stadium, as Serbia host Slovenia in Belgrade on Sunday evening.
Despite having most of possession, Serbia were defeated 0-1 at home to Norway on Thursday night thanks to an Erling Haaland strike in the first-half. Dragan Stoikovic’s side did qualify for this years World Cup, as they secured top spot thanks to a dramatic win away to Portugal in the final group match. The Eagles found the back of the net 12 times in their four qualifiers in-front of their supporters, scoring on multiple occasions in each of them.
Slovenia also suffered defeat at home in their opening Nations League fixture, as they lost 0-2 against Sweden in Ljubljana. Unlike their opponents, Slovenia failed to make this years World Cup, as they finished in fourth position, eight points behind second-placed Russia. Matjaž Kek’s sides sole victory away from home came against bottom side Malta, with them losing three of their other four away qualifiers, conceding on eight occasions.
Bet of the Day
Both Gibraltar and North Macedonia failed to win their opening Nations League fixture on Thursday, but the Baltic nation should have far too much for their lowly hosts. Blagoja Milevski’s visitors scored 19 goals in their six World Cup qualifiers against Armenia, Iceland and Lichtenstein and they should make the net bulge at least twice against a Gibraltar side that have conceded at least three times in their 10 World Cup qualifiers, as well as away to Georgia last time out.
Both Serbia and Slovenia began their Nations League campaigns with defeats at home to Nordic nations Norway and Sweden respectively but I’m expecting the Serbians to bounce back in Belgrade on Sunday evening. Dragan Stoikovic’s side scored 12 goals in their four World Cup qualifiers in-front of their own supporters and I’m happy to back them to score at least twice against a Slovenia side that tend to struggle on their travels.
- North Macedonia to Score 2+
- Serbia to Score 2+
- Double Pays 1.22/1 (William Hill)
