Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the English Premier League and the French Ligue 1. I’m expecting goals at both ends in England and the home side to be far too good for their opponents in France, to give us a nice odds against double.
Monaco vs Lorient
🇫🇷 Ligue 1
⏰ Sunday 13th February, 12:00
Monaco will look to climb the Ligue 1 table. As they host a struggling Lorient at the Stade Louis II. The hosts come into this in sixth, just two points behind fourth-placed Strasbourg, whilst the visitors are only outside the relegation-zone on goal difference.
Monaco bounced back from their 3-2 defeat away at Montpellier, by defeating Lyon 2-0 last time out. Monaco have been superb at home this season, with the Principality club W7-D2-L0 of their last nine at the Stade Louis II, winning each of their last four. Only theee sides have outscored Phillipe Clement’s side in Ligue 1 this season, with Monaco finding the back of the net on 37 occasions. Monaco have conceded 26 times in the league this season, but just 11 of those have come at home.
Lorient secured their first league victory since September last time out, as they defeated Lens 2-0. Prior to that, Lorient had gone 15 games without a win in Ligue 1, losing 10 of them. Lorient have the worst away record in the league, collecting just four points from a possible 36. Christophe Pélissier’s side are indeed the only team yet to win away from home and have lost each of their last seven in their travels, conceding 22 goals and scoring just five.
Newcastle United vs Aston Villa
🏴 Premier League
⏰ Sunday 13th February, 14:00
Newcastle will look to take a further step away from the relegation zone as they take on Aston Villa at St James’ Park. The hosts come into this in 17th-place, a point above the relegation-zone, whilst the visitors are in 11th.
Newcastle United climbed out the relegation-zone last time out, as they came from behind to defeat Everton 3-1. Eddie Howe’s side are now unbeaten in their last four in the league, winning each of their last two. The Magpies have only failed to score in five of their 23 league games this season, with only Chelsea and Manchester City leaving the North-East with a clean sheet. Only Leeds United and Norwich City have conceded more goals in the league than Newcastle, with the Geordies conceding 44 goals.
Despite leading 3-1, Aston Villa come into this drawing 3-3 with lowly Leeds United. Despite throwing away a two goal lead, the Villans are now unbeaten in each of their last three, scoring six goals. Villa rarely fail to score in the league, scoring In 19/22 of their matches. However, they do struggle to keep clean sheets, keeping just six in their opening 22 matches.
Bet of the Day
Monaco have one of the best home records in Ligue 1 and they’ll fancy taking all three points against a struggling Lorient side. Lorient have the worst away record in the league, collecting just four points and I can’t see them taking anything against a Monaco side unbeaten in their last nine at home, winning seven. Newcastle will be buzzing after back-to-back victories and will be looking to go further clear of the relegation-zone. Villa have scored in 19/22 this season and with Newcastle scoring in 17/22, I’m happy to back both teams to score, especially when Newcastle have kept two all season and Aston Villa only three away.
- Monaco to Win
- Newcastle United vs Aston Villa – Both Teams to Score
- Double Pays 13/10 (SBK)
