Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the European ties, and there’s one fixture in particular that not only appeals to me for goals but for cards too.

Following their 2-0 success at home last week, Bayer Leverkusen will look to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League as they travel to Budapest to take on Ferencváros this evening.
Ferencváros ensured they didn’t have to take part in the Europa League playoff round, as they finished top of their group. In a highly-competitive group, Stanislav Cherchesov’s hosts collected 10 points (W3-D1-L2) – seven of those coming at home – from their six fixtures with Serbian giants Crvena Zvezda, Turkish champions Trabzonspor and Monaco, finishing above the Ligue 1 side due to their superior head-to-head record. The Green Eagles have found the back of the net in 18/19 of their competitive fixtures in front of their supporters this season, including in all seven in Europe.
Bayer Leverkusen finished third in their Champions League group behind Belgian champions Club Brugge and Portuguese giants Porto to set up a tie with the side that finished second place in their upcoming opponents’ Europa League group, Monaco. After both sides won the away fixture 2-3, Xabi Alonso’s eventually sealed their place in the last-16 on penalties in the Principality. Die Werkself have found the back of the net in 13 of their last 15 league and European matches, scoring on multiple occasions in 12 of those.
Bet of the Day
Ferencváros rarely fail to score in front of their supporters, and they’ll look to get back into this tie by troubling a Leverkusen defence that’s registered just one away clean sheet all season. However, Xabi Alonso’s visitors are in fine goal-scoring form too – and they will also be confident of breaching a Ferencváros defence that’s kept just one clean sheet across their seven home European fixtures this season, and that came against Irish side Shamrock Rovers.
To increase the price, I’m happy to throw in both clubs to be shown a card. Both Teams have been carded in 23/24 (96%) of their combined matches in European this season, whilst referee Artur Soares Dias has brandished a card to both sides in all 17 of his Primeira Liga and European assignments this season.
