After recording a fourth successive winner in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the EFL, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

Two clubs separated by seven places, but just four points, in the League Two table, meet at Rodney Parade on Friday night as 20th-placed Newport County play host to mid-table Walsall in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Graham Coughlan’s hosts have scored 21 goals across their opening 13 matches in League Two this campaign, with 14 (67%) of them coming in front of their supporters. The Exiles have made the net bulge in all seven of their league outings on home soil – striking on multiple occasions in four (57%) of them – and they will look to trouble a Walsall backline yet to register a clean sheet across their opening seven league matches on their travels this term, conceding 16 goals.
Mat Sadler’s visitors have scored 19 goals across their opening 13 matches in League Two this term, with 10 (53%) of them coming on their travels. The Saddlers have made the net bulge in 10/13 (77%) of their league contests – scoring two or more in four of their previous six road trips – and they will be confident of breaching a Newport defence whose two clean sheets in the league this season have come against Doncaster (19th) and Forest Green (23rd), with only bottom side Sutton (30) conceding more than their tally of 26.

Newport’s opening 13 matches in League Two this season are averaging 3.62 goals per game, with a league-high 11 (85%) of them seeing Over 2.5 Goals land – and given 6/7 (86%) of Walsall’s league contests on the road have featured three or more goals – I’m happy to have a punt on there to be at least three goals scored between these two sides in South Wales on Friday night.
