Rennes will look to keep their Champions League hopes alive, as they travel to the Stade de la Beaujoire to take on Coupe de France winners Nantes. The visitors are currently fourth, three points behind third-placed Monaco, whilst the hosts are currently positioned in ninth.
Nantes will come into this match full of confidence, as they defeated Nice 1-0 at the weekend to lift the Coupe de France trophy. In the league, The Canaries drew 2-2 away to Lens last time out, meaning they’ve lost just one of their last six in Ligue 1 and that came away to second-placed Marseille. Nantes have also lost just one of their last nine at the Stade de la Beaujoire, winning six in that run (W6-D2-L1). Antoine Kombouaré’s side have scored in 11 of their last 14 at home, as well as finding the back of the net in each of their last six in Ligue 1, scoring 14 times. Nantes have recorded just eight clean sheets in their 35 matches this season, with none of them coming in their last eight. Following back-to-back defeats against European-rivals Monaco and Strasbourg, Rennes bounced back with a pair of convincing home victories against strugglers Lorient and Saint-Étienne. Those defeats to both Monaco and Strasbourg are Rennes’s only two losses in their last 11 in Ligue 1, with them winning eight in that run (W8-D1-L2). Les Rennais have also found the back of the net in each of their last 11 matches in the league, scoring on multiple occasions in nine of them. In fact, Rennes have found the back of the net in 30/35 of their fixtures this season, with only PSG (81) scoring more than their tally of 77. Les Rouge et Noir have recorded 13 clean sheets so far this season but just three have come on the road, with them conceding in each of their last nine on their travels. Rennes will look to go level on points with third-placed Monaco and whilst they come into this winning eight of their last 11, they’ll face a tough task against a Nantes side that’s lost just one of their last nine at home, and who lifted the Coupe de France trophy at the weekend. Antoine Kombouaré’s hosts have been in fine goal-scoring form in recent weeks, banging in 14 goals in their last six in the league and will be confident of netting against a Rennes side without a clean sheet in their last nine on their travels. However, The Canaries are without a clean sheet in their last eight in Ligue 1 and I can’t see them shutting out the second-highest scorers in Ligue 1, who have found the back of the net in each of their last 11. To boost the price up, I’ve decided to add in both sides to receive a card. Nantes have been carded in each of their last 34 matches in Ligue 1, whilst Les Rennais have been carded in 32/35 of their Ligue 1 tussles this season.
