Tuesdays Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League playoffs and two games that are still on a knife-edge. Both games were entertaining and full of goals in the first leg and I’m expecting more of the same as all four sides battle for a place in the group stages.
Ferencváros vs Young Boys
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Saturday 24th August, 20:00
Ferencváros host Swiss side Young Boys at the Groupama Aréna in Budapest. The visitors come into this clash with a slender 3-2 lead from the first leg.
After defeat in Bern last week, Ferencvaros were given a weekend off to prepare for this crucial second leg. Ferencváros have scored in 8 of their 9 competitive games this season scoring 20 times. Clean sheets have been a bit harder to come for the Hungarian champions as they’ve conceded in 6 of those games conceding 9 goals.
Young Boys too were also given a weekend off to prepare for their vital second leg in the Hungarian capital. Young Boys have been banging the goals in this season, particularly in their last three games in which they’ve scored 10 times. The Swiss champions have found clean sheets harder to come by, keeping only two in their eight competitive games this season.
PSV vs Benfica
🇪🇺 UEFA Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 24th August, 20:00
Portuguese giants Benfica travel to Eindhoven to take on PSV at the Phillips Stadion in a vital second leg. The side from Lisbon come into this with a slender 2-1 advantage from the first leg.
PSV come into this clash after defeating newly promoted Cambuur 4-1 at home in the Eredivisie to make it two wins from two. PSV have been banging the goals in so far this season, scoring 22 times, with all eight of their opponents failing to keep a clean sheet against them. PSV have scored in all 21 competitive games last season as well as their 4 home games this season.
Benfica extended their winning run at the weekend, scoring two late goals to defeat Gil Vicente 0-2. That’s now six straight wins to start the season for Benfica in which they’ve scored 12 times. Both sides scored in all five of Benfica’s away games in Europe, in which 22 goals were scored.
Bet of the Day
Young Boys won an entertaining first leg against Ferencváros and once more I’m expecting goals. Ferencváros rarely fail to score at home and with Young Boys struggling to keep many clean sheets, they’ll know they’ll likely have to score at least once in Hungary. Benfica too won an entertaining first leg but know they’ll likely need to score at least once given how many goals PSV score at home. Expecting two entertaining matches with all four sides finding the back of the net.
