Friday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me travel to Ireland and there’s a fixture in the second-tier that has the potential to be a high-scoring game.
Cobh Ramblers vs Wexford
🇮🇪 First Division
⏰ Friday 17th June, 19:45
Two sides in the bottom-half of the Irish First Division table meet at St Colman’s Park, as Cobh Ramblers play host to Wexford. Only one place separates these two sides in the table, however the visitors are eight points better off than their hosts.
Cobh Ramblers suffered their fourth defeat from their last five matches last time out, as they lost 5-2 away to previously winless Athlone Town. Darren Murphy’s hosts have won just once at home this season and come into this having lost each of their last three in front of their supporters. The Ramblers have found the back of the net in eight of their last nine league matches, scoring on multiple occasions in seven of them, including each of their last four. Cobh have recorded just one clean sheet all season and possess the league’s leakiest defence, conceding 44 times from their opening 17 league matches.
Wexford saw their winless run stretch to five matches last time out, as they drew 1-1 at home to fifth-placed Treaty United. lan Ryan’s visitors have won just two of their eight league matches on their travels this season, with both of those coming against the only two sides below them in the table. Wexford have found the back of the net in eight of their last 10 league matches, with only Galway United (2nd) and Waterford (3rd) stopping them scoring on that run. The Youths have recorded just two clean sheets in the Irish second-tier this season and posses the third-leakiest defence, conceding 30 times from their opening 17 matches.
Bet of the Day
Both previous meetings between Cobh Ramblers and Wexford this season have been high-scoring affairs, with the visitors winning 4-2 and 2-3 on both occasions and I’m expecting plenty more goals when the pair meet again on this evening. The Ramblers have found the back of the net in eight of their last nine matches, scoring two or more in seven of them and should breach a Wexford defence that’s recorded just two clean sheets all season. However, the hosts have recorded just the one clean sheet and also boast the division’s leakiest defence and I can’t see them shutting out their visitors who have scored in eight of their last 10 matches, as well as in 7/8 of their away fixtures this season. Given both of these sides recent records in front of goal and their defensive vulnerabilities, I reckon we’ll see another high-scoring match between these two.
