Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the English Championship and there’s a match that I like the looks of for goals.
Reading vs Birmingham City
🏴 Championship
⏰ Tuesday 22nd February, 20:00
Paul Ince will take charge of his first match in charge as interim boss of Reading, as his side take on Birmingham City at the Madejski. The hosts 21st, five points outside the relegation zone, whilst the visitors are 11 points better off in 18th.
Reading claimed a vital win away at Preston North End at the weekend, as they won 2-3 despite leading 0-3. That was the Royals first league win since the end of November, which proved costly for Veljko Paunović and cost him his job. Reading have the worst defensive record in the Championship, conceding on 62 occasions, with 34 of those goals coming at home. Reading have found the back of the net in 12/16 at the Madejski this season, with the four matches they failed to score in coming against sides currently positioned in the top-eight. In the bottom-half, only Stoke City (24) have scored more goals at home than Reading, with the Royals finding the back of the net on 23 occasions.
Birmingham come into this unbeaten in their last two, following a 3-0 win at home to Luton Town, before drawing 2-2 away to Stoke City last time out. Birmingham have won just twice in the league since September, with the Blues collecting just 11 points out of a possible 39. Lee Bowyer’s side have found the back of the net in 13 of their last 14 Championship fixtures, including in each of their last 10. Only three sides in the division have conceding more goals than Birmingham, with the Midlands side conceding on 51 occasions, with 30 of those coming away from St Andrews.
Bet of the Day
Both Reading and Birmingham City have two of the worst defences in the Championship and with both sides needing the points, there’s a good chance we’ll see goals in Berkshire on Tuesday evening. They’ve already conceded 113 goals between them in the league this season, with the Royals managing just four clean sheets all season and the visitors registering just one in their last 13. Both sides are capable of scoring goals, with Reading being the second-highest scorers in the bottom-half, whilst Lee Bowyer’s side have found the back of the net in each of their last 10 in the league. Given both sides records at both ends of the pitch, I can see both sides finding the back of the net here and that should lead us to over 2.5 goals.
- Reading vs Birmingham City – Over 2.5 Goals
- Pays 49/50 (Unibet)
