Two sides in the hunt for promotion to the Primeira Liga meet at the Estádio Municipal de Chaves, as Chaves host Rio Ave. The hosts come into this in fifth position, one place and two points behind their opponents who are also within two points of the top-two.
Chaves’s fine run of form continued last time out, as they saw off Academico Viseu 0-2 away from home, making it seven wins and one draw from each of their last eight matches in the league. Vítor Campelos side boast one of the league’s strongest home records, with them winning six, drawing twice and losing just once. Chaves have managed to find the back of the net in 17/20 of their league matches, scoring on 33 occasions. Clean sheets have been harder to come by for Chaves this season, keeping only five clean sheets, with all five coming against teams in 13th and below.
Rio Ave came back from two goals down last time out to draw 2-2 away at Leixões, extending their unbeaten run to six in the Liga Portugal 2. No side has collected more points away from home in the league than Rio Ave, with them winning five, drawing four and losing just once. Rio Ave have managed to find the back of the net in 18/20 of their league matches, scoring on 35 occasions, with only Benfica II scoring more. Luís Freire’s side have also struggled for clean sheets this season, managing just four.
Bet of the Day
Chaves and Rio Ave are the two most in-form sides in the Portuguese second-tier, with both sides taking 16 and 14 points respectively from their last six games. Both are amongst the highest-scoring teams in the league and have managed to find the back of the net in 35 of their 40 combined matches this term. They do, however, struggle defensively, registering just nine shut-outs between them. Given both sides current form and their records at both ends of the pitch, I can see both sides scoring here in a match between two of the division’s better sides.
