After making it 10 wins from 11 thanks to that ten-goal thriller in Grimsby on Saturday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to La Liga and focus on the match involving unlikely title-contenders Girona.

Girona will look to go top of the La Liga table as they travel to the Power Horse Stadium to take on bottom side Almería in a fixture that I’m keen to back the visitors to secure a comfortable victory.
It’s been a remarkable first half of the season for Girona, with the Catalans sitting in 2nd position in the La Liga table, behind leaders Real Madrid only on goal difference following their late and dramatic 4-3 victory over Atlético last time out. Míchel’s visitors have now collected 48 points across their opening 19 matches in La Liga this term (W15-D3-L1), with that record remarkably changing to W13-D0-L0 when taking on sides currently positioned 8th and below in the La Liga table.
Almería’s torturous and winless start to the campaign continued last time out, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat away at mid-table Osasuna. Unsurprisingly, Gaizka Garitano’s hosts sit bottom of the La Liga table, 11 points adrift of safety, after having only collected five points from a possible 57 (W0-D5-L14), with two of those draws coming against two of the other sides that currently sit alongside Los Rojiblancos inside the relegation zone.

To say these two sides are having contrasting seasons is most certainly an understatement. Girona have won all 13 of their meetings with clubs positioned outside the top seven – including a 5-2 victory in the reverse victory back in October – and I’m backing them to secure another maximum and scoring two or more goals against a winless Almería side.
Míchel’s title challengers are the leading scorers in La Liga, banging in 46 goals across their opening 19 matches, with 21 (46%) of them coming on their travels. The Blanquivermells have only failed to score at home to title-rivals Real Madrid in La Liga – scoring on multiple occasions in 12/19 (63%) of them, including in 10/12 (83%) when facing sides positioned in 9th and below – and come up against an Almería defence that has conceding a league-high 43 goals, shipping multiple goals in 14/19 (74%) of them, including in 9/10 (90%) against top-half sides.
