Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Champions League. First up, I’m expecting goals in Dortmund. Then, I’m expecting Leipzig to have too much firepower for their opponents.
Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting Lisbon
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 28th September, 20:00
Borussia Dortmund host Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon at Signal Iduna Park. It was contrasting starts for both sides, as Dortmund won their first match whereas Sporting were defeated.
Dortmund kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-2 win over Besiktas. In truth, it was a lot more comfortable than the scoreline with the German side missing countless amount of chances before conceding a consolation goal in stoppage time. Dortmund failed to score for the first time at the weekend in their defeat by Gladbach. They were without both Marco Reus and Erling Haaland in that match but they are hopes both will be fit for this encounter. I’ve mentioned Dortmund’s goal stats many times this season already. Eight of their nine matches have went over 2.5 goals this season including all four at home in which 22 goals have been scored.
Sporting Lisbon’s Champions League campaign started with a humiliating 1-5 defeat at home to Ajax. Sporting have recovered from that defeat though with back to back 1-0 victories in Liga NOS over Estoril and Maritimo. Lisbon will certainly fancy their chances of breaching Dortmund’s leaky back line as they’ve scored in all nine of their fixtures this season, in which they’ve scored 14 goals.
RB Leipzig vs Club Brugge
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Tuesday 28th September, 20:00
RB Leipzig host Belgian champions Club Brugge at the Red Bull Arena on match day 2. Both sides come into this looking for their first of this seasons Champions League.
RB Leipzig lost their first match in this seasons Champions League after being defeated 6-3 by Manchester City. Since then, Leipzig drew 1-1 away to Köln before a morale boosting 6-0 home win over Hertha Berlin at the weekend. I’m last seasons Champions League, Leipzig won all three group stage games at home, including victories over both PSG and Manchester United, scoring seven goals.
Very few, if any, thought Club Brugge would get a result at home to PSG in matchday 1 but that is exactly what they did, securing a 1-1 draw. Coming into this, Club Brugge could only muster a 1-1 draw at home to lowly Leuven but still remain top. Club Brugge generally struggle on their travels in Europe and failed to keep a clean sheet in their four games last season, conceding seven times. Three of those goals came in their last visit to Germany, with Dortmund defeating them 3-0.
Bet of the Day
Goals are a feature of Marco Rose’s Borussia Dortmund side and I don’t see that changing on Tuesday evening. Sporting Lisbon will feel they can cause Dortmund’s fragile defence problems and that should lead us to a game featuring at least three goals. Leipzig boosted their confidence with a 6-0 victory at the weekend and are generally strong at home. Brugge earned a memorable draw at home to PSG but struggle defensively away from home in Europe. Leipzig will look to this as a must win and with them back in the goals, should score at least a couple of goals.
- Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting Lisbon – Over 2.5 goals
- RB Leipzig to Score 2+ goals
- Double Pays 5/4 (William Hill)
