Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the football league in England. I’ve picked two sides who I think will keep up their good scoring form of late and score at least twice against their struggling opponents.
Fulham vs Birmingham City
🏴 Championship
⏰ Tuesday 18th January, 19:45
Fulham will look to extend their lead at the top of the Championship as they host an out of form Birmingham City side at craven Cottage. The hosts currently hold a two point advantage over 2nd placed Bournemouth, whilst the visitors are 18th, just six points clear of the relegation zone.
After failing to win any of their last five championship matches in 2021, Fulham have started the year with two emphatic wins. Marco Silva’s side won away to Reading and at home to Bristol City, scoring a whopping 13 goals in the process. By a distance, Fulham are the Championship’s top scorers this season, finding the back of the net 64 times in their opening 25 matches. The Cottagers have only failed to score three times this season and have scored on multiple occasions in 14 of their matches this season.
Birmingham scored late on to rescue a point away to Preston at the weekend, to avoid a third successive defeat in the league. However, Lee Bowyer’s side are without a win in their last five in the Championship and have won just once in their last nine. On the road, Birmingham have won once since August, losing six of their last 11. The blues have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last five in the league, conceding on 12 occasions.
Morecambe vs Wigan Athletic
🏴 League 1
⏰ Tuesday 18th January, 19:45
Wigan will look to jump up into 2nd place in league 1, as they make the short trip to Lancashire to take on Morecambe at the Mazuma Stadium. The visitors can go into 2nd with a win, while the hosts are currently inside the relegation zone, two points from safety.
After their memorable comeback win over Doncaster in their last home match, Morecambe grabbed a point away to fellow relegation rivals AFC Wimbledon last time out. That win over Doncaster was only Morecambe’s second victory since October, with the Shrimps losing nine of those matches. Morecambe have the leakiest defence in League 1, with Stephen Robinson’s side already conceding 49 goals in their opening 25 matches this season.
Wigan finally played their first league match of 2022 at the weekend there, as they won 1-2 away to another side inside the relegation zone, Doncaster. Leam Richardson’s men are unbeaten in the league since the end of October, winning six of their last eight. In those eight matches, the Latics found the back of the net on 17 occasions, scoring two ore more in seven of those. Only MK Dons have scored more than Wigan on their travels this season, with the Latics scoring 27 times in their 11 away matches.
Bet of the Day
Fulham come into this scoring 13 goals in their last two matches and know a win at home to Birmingham will see them go four points clear at the top of the Championship. The Cottagers are the leagues highest scorers and should score at least twice against a Birmingham side that’s winless in their last five, conceding 12 goals in the process. Wigan will look to go within a point of league leaders Wycombe, as they travel to lowly Morecambe. The Latics have scored 2+ in seven of their last eight in league and will fancy their chances of doing so again, away to the leagues leakiest defence. Wigan have also scored on multiple occasions in each of their last 10 matches away from home in League 1 and I’m backing them to extend that run to 11 against the Shrimps.
- Fulham to Score 2+ Goals
- Wigan Athletic to Score 2+ Goals
- Double Pays 7/5 (William Hill)
