Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me delve into the Scottish Championship and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

Two teams separated by two places and three points in the Scottish Championship meet at Somerset Park on Saturday afternoon, as second-placed Ayr United play host to fourth-placed Inverness CT.
After beginning the season by drawing two of their opening three games, Ayr went on to win each of their next three matches to take them top of the Championship table. However, Lee Bullen’s men relinquished top spot last time out, as his side lost 3-2 away at Raith Rovers – their first league defeat of the season. Ayr have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last six league matches, conceding 10 goals. However, only table-toppers Partick Thistle (16) have scored more than Ayr’s tally of 14, with The Honest Men notching at least twice in each of their last six Championship matches.
Inverness made a slow start to their Championship season, as they had won just one of their opening five fixtures (W1-D-L2). However, Billy Dodds’ side come into this off the back of successive victories, firstly by winning 0-2 at Raith Rovers and then winning 2-3 at promotion-hopefuls Dundee. That now takes Caley Thistle’s goal tally to 11, with 10 of those coming in their previous five matches. The side from the Highlands have registered just one clean sheet in their last five games in the Scottish Championship, letting in eight goals in that run.
Bet of the Day
Ayr United will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon but face a tough test against an Inverness Caledonian Thistle side who come into this off the back of successive victories away at Raith Rovers and Dundee. The two meetings at Somerset Park between the pair finished 2-2 last season, and a similar scoreline wouldn’t surprise me on Saturday afternoon.
After drawing their league opener 0-0 with Arbroath, Ayr United’s last six league matches have seen a total of 24 goals – with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals landing in all six. Inverness have seen 18 goals in their last five in the league, and given the scoring form both teams are in and their lack of clean sheets so far this season, I’m confident we’ll see at least three strikes in Ayrshire on Saturday afternoon.
