Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Dutch Cup, and there’s one fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Two clubs bidding to reach the third round of the KNVB Cup meet at Erve Asito early Thursday evening as Eerste Divisie leaders Heracles play host to mid-table Eredivisie side the Go Ahead Eagles.
Heracles sit top of the Eerste Divisie table, and that is partly due to their near-perfect home record, in which they have collected 25 points from a possible 27. John Lammers’s men, by a distance, are the leading scorers in the Dutch second tier, scoring a whopping 56 goals, with 35 of them incredibly coming across their nine matches as hosts. However, the Almelo-based club have struggled for clean sheets in recent times, keeping just two across their previous 11 league matches.
After losing each of their opening five matches back in the Eredivisie this season, the Go Ahead Eagles have remarkably gone on a 10-match unbeaten run, climbing them into 10th position, seven points clear of the relegation playoff spot. René Hake’s men have found the back of the net in 10 of their previous 11 league outings, scoring multiple goals in seven of those. Despite their impressive run of form, The Eagles have registered just three clean sheets in the Eredivisie this season, with just one of those coming away from home.
Bet of the Day
Both clubs enter this cup-tie in great nick, with Heracles sitting top of the Eerste Divisie, whilst the Go Ahead Eagles are on a 10-match unbeaten run in the Eredivisie. Given the hosts have failed to score just once this season and the visiting Eagles have scored in 11 of their previous 12 in all competitions, there’s every chance we’ll see both of these teams get on the scoresheet once more.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in a remarkable 18/20 (90%) of Heracles’s league and cup matches this season – and given the goal-scoring form both of these sides are in – I reckon there is a good chance we’ll see at least three strikes here with both teams contributing in what has the potential to be an entertaining cup-tie.
