Friday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the German second-tier and I like the look of goals at both ends between two sides bing for promotion. To boost the price up, I’ve added a cards angle.
St Pauli vs Nürnberg
🇩🇪 2. Bundesliga
⏰ Friday 29th April, 17:30
Two sides who are still in the hunt for Promotion to the Bundesliga meet at Millerntor-Stadion, as St Pauli host Nürnberg. The hosts are currently third, just four points behind leaders Werder Bremen, while the visitors are sixth, just three points behind their upcoming opponents.
St Pauli’s were dealt a major blow last time out, as they lost 1-2 at home to Darmstadt, a result which saw their opponents leapfrog them into third place. Timo Schultz’s hosts have now failed to win either of their last four matches in the German second-tier, however that loss at home to Darmstadt last time out was just their second home defeat all season. St Pauli have found the back of the net in all bar one of their 15 fixtures on home turf this season, with only Schalke (37) finding the back of the net on more occasions at home than St Pauli (34). The Kiezkicker have conceded in 25/31 of their 2.Bundesliga fixtures this season, keeping just one clean in their last 19 matches. St Pauli have been shown a card in 24/31 of their league fixtures this season, whilst their opponents have been carded in 28/31 of their league matches.
Nürnberg were also dealt a major blow last time out, as they lost 2-4 at home to lowly Sandhausen to leave them four points outside the promotion playoff spot. That loss was only Robert Klauß’s sides second defeat in their last nine 2.Bundesliga matches, with them having won five in that run (W5-D2-L2). Nürnberg have found the back of the net in 26/31 of their league fixtures this season, scoring in 18 of their last 19 matches. Der Altmeister have kept five clean sheets on their travels this season, but all five have came against teams in the bottom-half, with them conceding 18 goals in their eight away matches against top-half sides. Nürnberg have been carded in 14/15 of their away fixtures in the Bundesliga, with their opponents been shown a card in 28/31 of their league fixtures.
Bet of the Day
Despite coming into this off the back of a damaging defeat, both St Pauli and Nürnberg still have realistic chances of promotion but know they can ill-afford to drop any more points. St Pauli have scored in 14/15 at home, scoring 34 goals and they should net against a Nürnberg who have yet to keep a clean sheet in their eight matches away to top-half sides, conceding 18 goals in the process. However, Robert Klauß’s visitors have found the back of the net in 18 of their last 19 2.Bundesliga matches and they’ll be confident of scoring against their opponents who have kept just one clean sheet in their last 19 in the league. Backing both to score is a little short, so to boost the odds up I’m happy to add in both sides to get a card. Both of these sides have drawn a card from their opponents in 28/31 of their respective matches and given both these sides need the points, we should see both earn a card in what should be an entertaining and competitive clash at the Millerntor-Stadion.
