Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me head stateside and there’s a match in the MLS that I like the look of for goals at both ends. To boost the price up, I’ve added in a cards based angle to form a solid looking bet builder.
Seattle Sounders FC vs Portland Timbers
🇺🇸 MLS
⏰ Saturday 9th July, 21:30
Two Cascadian rivals go head-to-head at Lumen Field on Saturday evening, as the Seattle Sounders play host to the Portland Timbers, with just three places and three points separating the two in the Western Conference table.
Seattle bounced back from their 1-2 defeat at home to CF Montréal with a 0-2 victory away to Toronto last time out. Prior to that defeat at home to Montréal, Brian Schmetzer had saw his side take 13 points from their previous five matches in-front of their own supporters (W4-D1-L0). The Sounders have found the back of the net in each of their last six MLS fixtures at home, scoring 14 times in that run. Seattle have registered just four clean sheets from their opening 17 MLS fixtures this season, conceding in 7/9 of their matches as hosts. The Rave Green’s have been shown a card in 15/17 of their MLS matches this season, whilst their opponents receiving one in 14 of those fixtures.
Portland fought back from two-down to draw 2-2 away to Nashville SC last time out, extending their unbeaten run to four matches. Giovanni Savarese has saw his side win just once on their travels this season (W1-D5-L4), but come into off the back off successive draws against fellow Western Conference sides LA Galaxy (5th) and Nashville SC (6th). The Timbers have found the back of the net in 8/10 of their away fixtures this season, including in each of their last five. However, Portland have registered just one clean sheet in their travels this season, conceding 18 goals in their 10 road trips. The Timbers have been shown a card in 18/19 of their MLS fixtures this season, whilst their opponents have received one in 17 of them.
Bet of the Day
Seattle currently occupy the final playoff place in the Western Conference and despite sitting three places behind them in 10th, Portland can go level on points with their Cascadian rivals with a win at Lumen Field on Saturday evening. Giovanni Savarese’s visitors have found the back of the net in 8/10 of their away fixtures, including each of their last five and I expect them to net against their opponents who have kept just four clean sheets in the league this season. However, The Timbers have kept just a solitary clean sheet on their travels and given Brian Schmetzer’s hosts have found the back of the net in each of their last six home fixtures, scoring 14 goals, I also expect them to net in-front of their own supporters. With both sides having been carded in 33/36 of their combined MLS fixtures this season, I’m happy to add in both sides to receive a card along with both to get on the scoresheet in what should be an entertaining encounter at Lumen Field.
